Major hesitation problems... help!!
Accelerating a bit sluggish but when you floor it the response is horrible. Nowhere near where it used to be.
Main problem: Going 30-40 and flooring it, it seems like the car doesn't want to go into higher gear. My RPMs don't go past like 4.5k no matter what i do. It just stumbles and hesitates. The car started fine and everything was good but at first i noticed absolutely no throttle response.
Could it be the MAF? There are no codes. (i also changed the air filters literally few hundred miles ago, related?)
Transmission? One of the higher gears went out?
Any ideas..

OK
where do you i buy a MAF, for a reasonable price? Is it like $600 like on other cars?
Next, can I check if it's the MAF to make sure first? Anyway to check it with a voltmeter or something?
It right slightly better today but overall it hesistates and doesn't want to rev. Sometimes when I floor it and hold it there for like 10 seconds it will finally behave as it downshifted and take off, but still obviously struggling big time...
So how do I check it?
thanks

Take it to the service center and have them diag/fix the problem.
They have ways and tools that we dont have.
If it is MAF it'll be coverd under your warranty and should be a simple fix.
Mine was covered and cost me nothing but two hours of my time wich was spent drinking expresso and playing vitural golf in the waiting area. Not bad if you ask me.

my car has been out of any type of warranty for 4+ years.
I'm trying to make sure that it can be bad without going somewhere. Benz dealer is not touching my car because they charge like $125/hr and will tell me what i can probably diagnose myself, i just need someone to tell me what to look for.
Is there a way to check resistance on it? What should it be?
HOW MUCH is it? What is a good price?
Check engine light doesn't have to be on for it to be bad, correct?

I just went to the gas station to fill up.. as soon as I pulled away i gave it gas and the car wouldn't go anywhere, then finally it jerked and bam my check engine light comes on.
I just checked the code and it's P0305, cylinder 5 misfire.
How are the coils on these cars? Prone to going or not? anything else to check?
and i still need a sure way of checking if my MAF is bad.

If you have the original plugs, this is going to be easy. The plugs are dead and should be replaced as soon as possible.
To test the wires, you could try moving the wires from the number 5 to the same position on the opposite cylinder head. Sorry, I don't know whether you have a six or an eight. If I did, I'd tell you which cylinder to swap it with. At any rate, what you're trying to do is to see if the misfire moves to the cylinder you swapped the wires to.

I have serious doubts that the coil is bad. Spark plugs and wires are regular wear items, so that's what I'd be leaning toward.

NYCLK: I got my MAF for $200 from Benzbin
http://mercedes.thebenzbin.com/?year...ield22222.y=14 (most place refer to this part as a 'Air Mass Meter' so look for that under the 'Air Intake' section.)
Takes about 10-15 minutes to replace it. There's a DIY piece on this swap. Look for the thread. There's also a thread on cleaning a MAF. That's the cheapest thing to try.
Sounds like plugs and/or wires to me but I wouldn't discount the MAF. A bad MAF should throw error codes p00170 and 173 "Malfunction Bank 1" and/or "2".
