Maintenance with a few questions

Hey guys,

So I'm past due for Service B and figured why pay $500+ when I can just buy the parts myself & save some money.

I have a few concerns though.

When I'm driving the car, its fine and smooth, but when I'm at a stop, my car is a bit shakey, what can this problem be, rotors, tranny? Or do I just need a tune up?

I noticed my car doesn't accelerate as it used to (doesn't have a quick response to it anymore), but I'm sure its just the spark plugs (they need replacing anyway) and I'm already ordering Bosch ones.

Time to do an oil change, so what oil do you guys recommend?

A tune up and new plugs would help with the accel plus you may need to replace the motor mounts to help the shaking. Have you ever checked your MAF?

+1 for the plugs and wires and cleaning the MAF.

Supposing you mean that the shaking is happening while stop-ING. It is probably warped rotors, bad pads, or worn shocks. (or all of the above). Rotors are always suspect. If you mean engine is stumbling at idle, then the tune up would definitely help that too.

How many miles on the car?

Oil I use is Mobile 1 : 0w/40. Make sure you don't overfill or underfill or the car will ***** at you.

I don't think its the motor mounts.

And its not while I'm stopping, it only shakes when I'm completely at a dead stop.

I just hit 78k miles.

Ok.
Tune it up.
Plugs/ Wires/ Clean MAF/ Change Oil.

Repost with more info on shaking:
Unload the tranny at idle (ie: in neutral vs. in Drive). Does the vibe continue?
If vibe continues in neutral, steadily give it gas. Does the vibe increase or change at all with RPM's?
Any fault codes?
Any gas mileage drop issues?

A good tune up would probably be your best bet.

Hesitation on accel and rough idle are signs of a bad MAF or very dirty air filters (I'd change these first because you have to anyways and see if it helps).

Other possibilities: motor mounts, plus/wires, and bad gas.

Oil: I use Mobil1 0W40 Synthetic with the OEM oil filter.

When I put my car in neutral, sometimes the shake goes away, other times it won't, and if I press gas while in neutral, the shake will usually go away.

You know, I can't really tell if my gas consumption got worse, I usually fill it up for $25 and it lasts me 3-4 days (half a tank)

There is no fault codes, no check engine.

I am however changing my oil 2m, so I'm hoping to get some things checked out.

MAF= Mass Airflow Sensor. It is located at the back of the airbox/engine close to the firewall

No problem. The car does not "knock" if the MAF is bad. You feel hesitation on acceleration and rough idle. As if the car was starving for air. Price is somewhere around $300 for the part but I dont remember exactly. Its definitely a DIY

Oh aiight, with that being said BB, what does it take for the MAF to go bad? and how long do they last before changing them, you know the yearly/mileage routine, whatever it is.

Its a known problem on our clk's, nothing really provokes its malfunction. There is no set interval to change them.

Happy to hear your car is running fine. My CLK is so finiky. She responds to everything and lets me know when something is not right. I just drove from Bham to ATL and back. My 320 burned a little more gas than usual going to ATL but the drive back was awesome. The more I punched it the more she wanted! Cocaine( thats her name) is an awesome car. I read the threads for advice too. Happy driving

Thanks!

Yeah my car lets me know everything too. Luckily enough, it barely ever has problems, *knocks on wood*

I was past due for service, so I guess I was experiencing normal symptoms.
