CLK320 W208 oil level too high warning
Hi all,
Recently I've started getting dashboard warnings about the engine oil level being too high. It normally happens after I've been driving about 10km. Can anyone shed any light as to whether this would be real, or otherwise a sensor issue? Or how to find out which it is? And if it is, how to fix it?
I've had two oil changes since it started happening so I'm thinking that likely the oil level is in fact correct. One thing that would be helpful to know is whether this particular warning normally does "wait" for 10km or so before triggering? Or any other advice?
Many thanks,
Howard

I realize that this is an old thread but I had a similar question. When I check the oil level with the dash monitor it says that my oil is overfilled but when I check the dipstick it is just where it should be. Is this a situation where the sensor has to be recalibrated or?

On my car, the oil level cannot be filled to the top on the dipstick. Oil expands when hot, and cold but full when checked will be overfull when hot. If that's not the case, and you're handy, drop the lower oil pan and swap the sensor. They're about $125

I did all kinds of troubleshooting and web browsing and I concluded that the light was correct and in fact my mechanic was overfilling it every time he changed the oil.
Solution: he started using the exact amount of oil stated in the manual instead of filling it to "full".
I've had multiple oil changes since then and the problem has never recurred.

Since the oil level sets between the high and low marks when warm I'll stick with using the dipstick until I need another reason to drop the pan.

The sensor that checks both the oil quality and quantity measures the electrical capacitance of the oil, which increases as the oil ages from wear deposits.
On several occasions, after just changing my oil, I've had warnings of being down 2 quarts while driving. Was always a false positive, because clean oil has very low capacitance, which was still invisible to the sensor.
Thankfully, our W208 engines still came with dip sticks.
