the older MBZ after 10 or so years need there airbags replaced,
look on the driver door where the VIN is, there should be a sticker indeicating when your airbags SRS need replacement!
i think this is it!

Are you guys sure about this? It doesn't make sense. How would the car know the bags need replacing and start flashing a light?
I suspect there is tarnish or corrosion on the connectorsd, or a break somewhere in the circuit. This trips off the light to alert the driver that the bag may not go off when needed.

My mother drives a 89 300TE and father a 86 190D. Both have the original airbags in them. There has been some debate within the family whether or not the bags even need to be replaced as per MBs suggestion. The Dealer wanted 4-7k to replace them. The SRS light does not flash in either car. Have other members had their SRS light flash when the bags are needed to be replaced?

I had the same problem and the problem was solved "by accident" when cleaning the car inside. Below the driver seat I found two connectors that had been pulled almost apart. Probably beacuse they get mixed up in the seat adjusment mechansim. I put them together and the SRS went off and my seat heating also came back. maybe there is connection to the safety belt system or something from the SRS system. I don't know.
