How many miles do you have on your E Class?
We are all interested to see how long our cars will last. This is perhaps one of the last great Mercedes sedans that were built like tanks. Mercedes stopped building their sedans as tanks after the W140 S Class (1999), the W202 C Class (2000), and finally the W210 E Class (2002). The only recent tanks that were not mentioned are the R129 SL Class (ended in 2002), and the Mercedes G-Class.
Please follow the following format:
Year:2002
Model: E320
Country: USA
Mileage: 50k
Comments: Been in the shop a few times for the exhaust replacement and small electronic problems.

Comments: Based on what I've read the typical things associated with these cars have needed replacement (MAF, O2 sensor, cat sensor, etc). Still rides like new once these things were fixed. LOTS of lights have gone out and needed replacement as well.

Year: 1998
Model: E320
Mileage: 155K (100 mile/day commute)
Gas mileage: 22 mpg avg.
Comments: one of the most reliable car I've ever owned. In the shop every 10K mile for oil change & service (if needed). Replaced MAF once, and window regulator about zillion times (on my own), and that's all.

Comments: Replace Lic plate bulb, and just received from MB that I should take in the car to replace the H/Balancer under recall.
I have been very fortunate that I have not had to replace anything major yet.
I rather say I love you to my car than my girlfriend; it never gets mad at you, or has a problem when other girls are looking or taking to you. I love this car.
I will be added a new addition 2004/2005 S500 gray on gray still looking I’m hoping to find what I’m looking for by the end of this month.

Mercedes E 220 CDI 2000
Year:2000
Model: E 220 CDI
Country: Portugal
Mileage: 47k
Comments: Very reliable car and I love it. I've bought it new in 2000 and the only major problem was the electronic A/C controler in 2001 wich make impossible the air intake to the interior (never happened before in Portugal). Repaired with a cost of 250 €. In 2004 the TV tuner also gave problems and was repaired by Becker with a cost of 480 €. Nothing more besides those two problems and the regular maintenance (every 12 000 miles).

However, normally, we get pretty bad fuel economy. Then again, here in Silicon Valley, we have to sit in traffic quite often.
I'd say on average we get around 23 mpg. Not bad. In fact, the last time I filled up this car, it got 24.8 mpg. Then, I filled up the C230 Kompressor and it only got 23.8 mpg (I'm calculating it myself with the trip odometer and number of gallons pumped into the tank, not relying on the computer). So, I'm pretty happy that it beats a 4 cylinder car but also pretty unhappy that the C230 Kompressor got such shoddy gas mileage (the only thing that I did that time was go to a meet with it in which i started the car half a dozen times to reposition it in the parking lot for photographs and drive it slightly more spiritedly).

When I got it,it had 42K on May 2nd,2003. I replaced MAF and 02 sensors, headlights, tail lights, blinker mirrors .rims from OEM to first aftermarket 18
inch rims, then 17 inch OEM E430 rims, and most recently had a head gasket replaced under extended warranty ($1,850 paid by the warranty co.,I paid $50 deductable) Only real pain in the butt since I had it was the tail lights....
Luckily I never got a ticket for them primarily because of the Fraternal badge in
in my windshield...

Had the usual head gasket trouble at the 60k checkup. Had to replace the vehicle speed sensors at the rear of the car. It wasnt really that big of a deal. I think the total service must have cost about 3k. But other than that I havent really had any other problems with the car.

I've put 14K on my baby since I got her in August of '04. Besides brakes, fluids & oil, the only thing needed fixing/replacing were the "bellows" along the open sunroof. I don't really need a personal car, but this is my one luxury! On highway trips I get 27-28mpg; since the last oil change (every 6K) I've averaged about 22mpg. I really loved my '97 E420, but she had rust, although small spots, all over. But the V-8 to V-6 wasn't as bad a trade-off as I expected, and I really love the AWD in our winters.
