"No Device Connected" suddenly appeared today - Ipod
Ipod in the 10 E350 was working fine for the last year until this afternoon, and now a message appears "No Device Connected" and obviously no music.
Ipod works fine when not plugged in the car and is charged.
Command Center is working normally except for this new issue.
The ipod turns on when the car is started and shuts off when the car is turned off.
I have unplugged and plugged back in several times.
Anyone run into this or have suggestions?

Thats odd, I havent had any problems with mine. Might be a software issue but I havent seen any service campaigns from MB on that one and as you said, no error messages. Says its not connected, any chance the connector got wet, damaged, messed with, etc? Maybe disconnect from the car, clean the head of the connector, then reconnect. Same on the Ipod side, just make sure nothing was bent, damaged, etc. Thats all I can think of but those connectors are pretty tight so not likely they can be damaged.
One more question, do you disconnect it and reconnect it often or do like I and just leave it all of the time? If disconnected to take with you often enough, maybe have worn out the connectors or potential damage. Just guessing of course. Let us know

The Ipod stays in the the Glove Box and rarely comes out except to add music once every few months.
It worked fine at 1pm, parked with the Audio off, then drove a bit more and the next time I turned audio on, about 4pm the message appeared.
Very strange as everything else is working, CD, Radio, Satellite, Navi

I have also had this issue intermittently. I also do not remove the iPod from my glove box... It stays plugged in 24/7.
I notice it happens under more often 2 conditions:
1. When the vehicle first starts and it is very cold. This could be a hardware connection issue... If the temp is cold enough to physically alter the connection points?
2. When I have not driven the car for a while (4 or 5 days).
However it does happen randomly too.
The fix for me is to listen to the radio or another media source for a while and then switch back to media interface (iPod). That seems to "wake it up" for some some reason. Or, if that doesn't work, I physically unplug it and plug it back in immediately. That works without fail.
Let me know if you take it to the dealer for a software update.
Thanks!

Although the Ipod works fine unplugged anywhere, cold, hot etc.
I'm going to call the dealer service manager first to give him a heads up, see if he's run into this before and let him get a head start in diagnosis. No sense in letting my car be at the dealer all day, having them plug it in and unplug and find I have to bring it back at a later date.
IMO, Its the cable and/or it's connectors or the a problem in the command center. I will try a friends Ipod today to see if the problem occurs.
Thanks

I will be taking it back to the dealer. It doesn't not work under any condition at this point. I tried this am.

I have a 5th gen nano ipod that will not charge in either of my E's. Has anyone found a fix yet? The odd thing is that it works perfectly in my new Porsche. I thought the problem existed with all German cars. The old ipods work fine.

E350 sedan
Ipod
I have a 160 GB Ipod Classic that I always keep connected to my Y2010 E350.
For the most part it works fine. Periodically, perhaps once a week, I will get the no device connected message.
Sometimes I switch to the radio and the issue resolves itself. Other times I disconnect the IPOD, start the reboot process, and then reconnect it to the Car while it is rebooting.
This always resolves the problem. It seems to happen most often when I am listening to the Ipod and then shut the car off for a short period of time.
It is a pain in the butt, but the interface works much better than the one on my BMW.

The link that was referred to me by OP was for 3rd gen ipod. I tried the new cable and it doesn't work for 5th gen Nano. The dealer talked to MB and they said they are working on it. I called MB and they said to talk to dealer to expedite. Of course they accept no responsibility for their incompetence. This has been going on since I got my 2011 E in August.

Actually I called Apple about three months ago and they advised me it's MB'S problem to get correct cable and software. In any event if the fix was on the Apple site I am sure the dealer would have been advised. It has been frustrating to say the least.

ipod showing No Device Connected...
Hi! I noticed you had this problem a while back. I own a GLK350X and am getting the same problem. I ordered the cords at the same time as I bought the car - so they are the right ones. The ipod worked in the car for years and I did have to plug/unplug once in a while, and it won't charge either which is annoying. In the last few weeks, it's crap out completely.
In the end, what was the problem and what is the fix? Thanks!

Unplug your iPod from your car and reset it. Let it go through rebooting. After you see picture of Apple pop up, let it go through until you see menu. Now plug it back into car. You are all set to go. Enjoy it.

Stand corrected: I rebooted three times - it is now working. Let's see for how long.

It works for me every time. I have 160GB iPod classic. After reset/reboot, did you see music menu? At this point, try selecting your selection of song from playlist and play it to make sure it plays without connecting to car. Now connect to your car. You should see it playing in car when you connect to car.
