HOLD Feature awesomeness

I realized after going over the original post that I mis-communicated. The remote for the Audi doesn't do this...the key does...if you insert the key and turn and hold one direction (I've forgotten which way), all the windows lower (or rise if they're open).
Sorry if that confused folks.

HOLD feature on the W212 is pretty neat.
But, regarding opening windows (and sunroof) via the key remote on Audis, it's not a factory-enabled option but something that you can "turn on" for at least most newer Audis.
I can open/close windows/sunroof with my key remote on an '11 S4 and a '10 Q5 and also have the ability to configure which windows (front, back or both) will open with the remote through the onboard computer.
I know it can be enabled on most newer Audis (not sure about older ones though as we were always an MB family and only recently started driving Audis)
Anyway, one thing I really like about our Audi's is that we can customize and change a lot of things (and also diagnose problems/issues) with a cable and a laptop (www.ross-tech.com). Is there something similar available for MBs?

OK guys. I will admit - I have tried. And tried. Just cannot activate the HOLD feature. I know this has come up a lot on another thread, and I gave up on it. Its surfaced up again.
Here is how I am doing.
1) Bring car to complete stop by pressing brake. Car stops. Thats the easy part.
2) Lift foot from brake pedal slightly, and give it a push. And I have tried both, gently and harsh push.
3) All that does is, takes the car a little forward everytime I lift the foot and stops it when I try to 'tap' it. And I keep on 'tapping' - and my car goes forward in little increments. I am sure people around me must be like, 'whats wrong with that dude?'
I know its all in the technique, but its frustrating that I cannot get it. Will keep trying.

Don't let up on the brake before tapping it. Brake, come to a stop, and keep the brake pressure constant for a moment. Now give the brake a quick push. You'll see the hold in the IC, and now you can let off the brake.

I had A6 4.2 and the only way to open/close windows was as was just described a few posts back - insert key into driver's door and hold it.
I also had until very recently an A8, and because if was "keyless go" you couldn't even put key in. So the way to open only (no closing) of all windows (not sunroof) was to open driver's door and press and hold driver's power window button untill all windows roll down. That was on a $75K car! Of course current A8 is IMHO the best and most luxurious car under $100K, but I'll never spend that much money for singe car of any brand anymore (twice was enough SL & A8, not taking such huge depritiation hit anymore).

OK. So, I have applied enough pressure on brake to bring it to complete stop. Once I do that, rather than pulling back, but apply MORE pressure - is that right? Never tried that. Will let you know. Thanks!

Exactly! Just apply the MORE pressure in a quick push and I'm sure it will work.

Did exactly what you instructed. And it worked!
On my way back from work, for the first time in my life I was hoping for more red lights so that I can turn it on! I know, I will get over it in 2 days, but I was seriously thinking of going to my dealer and have him demonstrate this feature to me.
Thanks guys for putting up with my ignorance.

Indeed. The HOLD Feature seems INCREDIBLE for drag racing at a track. Imagine staging at the lights with this bad boy? Can you say excellent reaction, and 60' times?

I can imagine the E550 feels extra "jolty" on takeoff from Hold. The E350 is like that enough itself.
This thing is like a drag racers best kept secret. I can imagine an E with 4-Matic (to eliminate wheel spin, although 4Matic sucks out a lot more power from a motor), with T/C off, can be a pretty burst-y and sticky launcher.

El Cid, Thanks for the information. I did not know when Studebaker first started using the "Hillholder" feature. I do know my parents had it on their Stude's in the 50's and 60's. They owned Studebakers from the 40's right to the end of the Studebaker run in 1965.

Somewhere I read that the hold feature can only be activated on an incline...not on level ground. Is this true? I use the feature often on hills. This morning I tried to activate it in my garage and on several other level areas and could not engage it. As soon as I was on a hill it worked perfectly.
