Spy Shots: ML-Class Lifts Face, Tones Up on 'Ring, Changes Name to MLE-Class

First it was known as the M, but that wasn't enough, so it became the ML. Apparently that wasn't enough because soon it will become the MLE-Class. I wish my investments would grow as much as this SUV's name has.

Our spies caught this MLE at Nürburgring finishing school, and they say it will be getting a single-bar grille. I wonder whom they had to electrocute to obtain that info nugget.

Read the rest on the MBWorld homepage. >>

You can probably count on it getting the "ipad velcroed to the dash" look for the command center next year also. I was just at the museum and factory in Stuttgart yesterday. They have a large collection of their new cars there and they all have this new look, including the cars that are not for sale in the US. They only had one M class on display, and it was a V-8 model.

Motor Trend articles says it will be GLE:

"All new Mercedes SUVs will carry a GL prefix. The renamed range will start with the recently launched GLA. The next-generation GLK will be badged GLC, while the M-Class replacement will be badged GLE, and the GL replacement will be badged GLS. All three vehicles will make their debut in 2015. The SUV range will be further expanded with coupe-like versions of the GLC and GLE -- competitors to BMW’s X4 and X6 SUVs. The GLE Coupe will be unveiled this winter at the Detroit auto show."

It's getting ridiculous now, just leave well enough alone.

People buy a car because of what it is or how it drives.

There's already enough confusion between world markets. My ML500 is a ML550 in the US and some other world markets. Our C250 is a C300 in the US. The GL450 (X164) here is a V8 diesel but it's a V8 petrol in the US. (and while mentioning this why didn't they carry this wonderful V8 diesel over into the new X166 GL-Class? And perhaps offer it in the ML to replace the 500/550 V8 petrol, but that's another story!)

So if they want to make it more simple and avoid confusion while they're at it they should make the numbers match the displacement of the engine again, like the old days. BMW are guilty of this as well. I guess it makes the vehicles more attractive if the numbers are higher, and in MB's case more rounded. ML470 anyone? Hmm doesn't quite sound right does it ... And I guess previous ML550 buyers in the US would be less attracted to a new ML400 if it was only called a ML300.

Obama's insanity has hit The ML! The 550 is no longer available in the USA as of 2015, and is replaced by the 400! This also drops the vehicle by almost 100 hp. I suppose you can always get the AMG, but then you sacrifice some of the luxury features that were available on the 550. Had to get me two new 550's ordered in Canada for 2015. Politics should not stifle car company innovation..

WHAT! The nerve of Obama! Did Obama do this when he was 14 or does Obama still have that Flux Capacitor time machine? Hell, I'd love to use that damn DeLorean.

"The Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) are regulations in the United States, first enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1975"

Don't you read the Republican news? Obama was groomed by a nefarious foreign shadow organization in his teenage years to grow up and do anything he can to limit Mercedes enthusiasts' access to an 8 cylinder ML550. Mission accomplished!

Wow! Thanks for the post! It's nice to see a glimpse into the future. A hybrid will be very interesting. I'd love to know what kind of HP/Torque a Hybrid ML can deliver. I hear that the power curves are very impressive with some of the hybrids out there.
