Totaled my E63.. lucky to be alive.
Driving on the turnpike looked down to get my wallet (Only day I left my ezpass.) as the toll was coming up in about 1/2 mile. Saw the 18 wheeler ahead and thought it was driving. 2-3 seconds later had literally a split second to swerve left and then there was impact. Didnt even have time to gasp. The truck had a flat tire and stopped in the middle of the highway Instead of pulling off. I am very fortunate to be alive.
I walked away with a bloody nose (possibly deviated septum), cuts , bruises and my knees still hurting a month after the accident. To this day I still can't believe that I literally was able to walk away. I was very lucky. It literally felt like an explosion went off and my car flew across 2 lanes and landed against concrete divider which at that time I thought I was hit by another car. The first person at the scene asked me if I was alive, which gave me chills.
Today picked up my 2012 E63.

Is that blood on the airbag? You must be extremely lucky to be alive, I mean the roof collapsed over the front passenger side and a passenger sitting there would have died instantly. If the roof had collapsed over you well you might not have been alive to post this thread! This kind've reminds of the Mercedes commercial where the grim reaper sits in the passenger seat waiting to take your life but you somehow survive the terrible accident and the grim reaper is crushed by the roof of the car. Mercedes has its ways of cheating death with its advanced techno gadgets.

Everything literally missed me by inches, there was a piece of metal about 3 inches away from my neck when the car finally landed. When I swerved left, I was able to just give my car enough room to take full impact on the middle right side of the car. I am thankful to god no one was in the passanger seat. Everything happened so fast. Im gonna estimate impact was at about 45mph. The police at the scene literally said people never walk away from that. Its been a month and my body still aches, but those knee airbags probably saved me two broken knees for sure. When I swerved left, I moved my whole body closer to the driver side window. The metal from the roof opened two wide gashes on my elbow and small tiny pieces of glass are being pushed out by my skin to this day. Guys honestly one misjudgement and not having complete attention to the road is deadly. Keep your seatbelts on and distractions away. If i didnt look up for split second I would have been in the same condition as the passanger seat. It makes me sick to my stomach, the sorrow I would have brought to my family, friends, and loved ones.

Yes that was blood, I didnt even feel the airbag hit me, as there was so much going on at the same time.

Thats amazing you survived and im very glad. The pictures are chilling reminders of What can happen in an accident, and reminds me why i chose Merc -SAFETY. However that seems to be alot of damage for 45 mph. Neverless your alive and thats all that matters.

Those pictures are frightening--I can't believe you walked away from this with just bruises and cuts. Thanks for sharing--a good reminder to drive safe! Glad you're ok!

wow thank god their was no one else in the car, I don't know if 2 rear passengers not wearing seat belts don't get thrown from the car and a passenger would have been done, look at it like a second chance at life, stop and appreciate the important things in life and never take it for granted, I know that the pics of your car will have me buckling up, glad that you're safe

Wow! Glad you are alive and kicking......the merc did its job. Mercs are pricey but they have a lot of built in safety features and give you the best chance to survive.

All I can say is WOW!
You are one lucky man to be alive. That is got to be one of the worst wrecks I have seen with the car still in one piece more or less.
It really is amazing surfing the various Audi, BMW and MB forums and looking at the car crashes these days and most people walk away from the accident. Amazing amount of engineering going on these days in cars that keep us alive.

Was thinking of the same thing. Did it? Anyway, it's good to hear the car had protected you and you are okay. Lots of people focus only on driving fun when looking for a new ride. It's too bad many don't look at crash testing on various vehicles. I researched extensively on crash rating before ending up with my W212. If the same happenend in a 5-series, I really can't say for sure if you would be still here with us today...Sorry, bimmer fans.
