Spotlight on Mercedes Metal at Mecum
The Mecum auctions are some of the year’s best chances to get your hands on a classic Mercedes-Benz. This year’s auction is no exception, with three fine examples from the Stuttgart company. There will be a Gullwing, a 300SL Roadster, and a 1993 600SEC Coupe on the block this year.
1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing
The Gullwings have been some of the most sought-after cars when they come up for auction. This 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, Lot S188, is expected to bring in $1.7 to $2 million when the gavel falls. It has the classic silver-on-red color scheme and sports serial number 5500354. This particular vehicle has competed in the Colorado Grand Rally and toured up to the Arctic Circle.
1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster
This 300SL Roadster shares much of the same body styling as the 300SL Gullwing mentioned above, with the major exception being the doors. This one has doors that open normally, as well as a convertible top. Lot S191, a 1957 MB 300SL Roadster, is a beautiful black-on-tan leather, serial number 7500604. It’s expected to fetch between $1.75 and $2.25 million.
Numbers-Matching 1993 600SEC Coupe
Age alone isn’t what determines the desirability of a Mercedes-Benz motorcar. Classic designs can add to it. Take Lot T53, a perfect-condition and numbers-matching 1993 600SEC Coupe, in two-tone gray/black with light-gray interior. This is one of only 159 SEC Coupes that were delivered to the U.S.
