Ear Candy: Listen to this E63 AMG’s Exhaust Upgrade
When I tested the new E63 the other week, I was actually surprised by how loud it was, even with the turbos suppressing most of the engine noise. I was even more impressed with how it sounded after I uploaded the video I took of it running around with my mic hooked up directly above the tailpipes. From that location there’s much more turbo wastegate sound than you get from inside the car.
However, after driving the E63 AMG, I took a spin in the W204 C63 AMG with all its naturally aspirated glory. I could exaggerate and say that by comparison, the C63 AMG makes the E63 sound as quiet as a Prius, but it really wouldn’t be that much of an exaggeration. Thankfully, when it comes to upping an E63 AMG’s volume, the aftermarket has us covered.
This video comes from Europe, and was a project done on the E63 because, like me, the owner felt the car needed more bark to go with its amazing bite. Using a C63’s iPE Exhaust, this E63 can go from a mild V8 burble to an absolute growler.
Sadly, though, this exhaust was a custom one-time job, and there currently isn’t another set like this, but if you do get tired of being unable to hear your new E63, you could always take a Sawzall to the tailpipes and make a straight exhaust.
