Rory Reid is the only new Top Gear presenter who was not sought out to join the crew for the relaunching of the show. Instead, he simply submitted a 30-second audition tape, along with hundreds (thousands?) of other people vying for the dream job, and was picked for his charm and acumen in his automotive videos, which are or have been on CNET UK, Recombu, YouTube, and Sky 1.

So, as everybody waits for Chris Evans to get his stuff together, why not start to familiarize yourself with the most unknown X-factor? In one of his reviews for Recombu (where he’s the editor-in-chief), Reid was able to take the Mercedes-AMG GT S out on the track at the Goodwood Circuit. In short, he fell in love with the twin-turbo V8 and its “low grumble.”

Getting the job might have been the easy part for Reid. Now he and his fellow presenters have to make sure not to tarnish the Top Gear name while attempting to replace the Top Trio.
