Ear-blasting E63 S AMG Makes 800 Horsepower at Runway Drag Race

By -

Mercedes has done a lot to quiet down the E63 S, making things more fun for owners to uncork them.

Though we can’t quite put our finger on it, there’s something extremely appealing about a big four-door car with supercar levels of acceleration. Be it a sedan or even a wagon, a vehicle of that size accelerating swiftly is a thing of wonder. AMG’s E63 S models fall into that category, and thanks to turbocharging, have engines which propel them beyond supercar speed.

AMGs will be getting quieter in the future though, thanks to the implementation of a gasoline particulate filter being shoved in the exhaust. That makes us even more appreciative of cars like this, which can scare the living daylights out of anyone within a 100 foot radius with a simple throttle blip.

Spotted at a runway drag event called Rolling 50/1000 over in Europe, this E63 S resides in a racing class for cars that make a specific engine output. In this case Group 5 for cars making between 750 through 1000 horsepower. It is claimed this one makes 830 horsepower. All of which make their presence known through decibel numbers.

We have a suspicion that this event was done just for fun for the owner of this E63 S. In three runs down a 1000 meter course, the highest trap speed was just 160 miles per hour. Not a bad number, but when a Toyota Supra blows by the timing lights a clean 20 miles per hour faster, you know this AMG sees daily driver duty. At the beginning of the video there was also a CLS AMG with the same livery. Even that car saw 183 miles per hour at the sharp end of the course. But at least that one claimed 900 horsepower under the hood.

But the real surprise came at the end against an R32 Golf. That Volkswagen was in the special tuner category and was making 980 horsepower. Humbling, to say the least.
