Revealed: Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG

The Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG has been revealed, and the numbers are unsurprisingly staggering. The big AMG’s biturbo V12 will offer 630 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque when it goes on sale next year.

Even though this car will devour long stretches of asphalt like Mr. Creosote devours pâté, it will sip gasoline like grandma sips morning tea. The S65 AMG is rated 23.7 mpg in the New European Driving Cycle … outstanding fuel economy for a 5,000-pound car that can hit 60 mph in 4.3 seconds.

Continuing to be sold exclusively as a long-wheelbase model, the S65 will offer standard amenities like MAGIC BODY CONTROL with ROAD SURFACE SCAN, as well as ESP Dynamic Cornering Assist: a system that supposedly eliminates understeer on turn-in by applying braking force to the inside rear wheel. Ceramic brakes will be offered as an option.

The Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is set for a simultaneous public unveiling at the L.A. Auto Show and Tokyo Motor Show. The fast flagship will have a starting price of €232,050 … U.S. pricing has yet to be announced.
