Mercedes-Benz 280SL for the Ages

Unfortunately, it looks like this 280SL may be the one that got away.

They just don’t get much better than this, do they?

Oh, we know what you’re thinking: “It sure would be nice to get my hands on a fine piece of Mercedes-Benz machinery like that one.”

Well, before anyone here gets all excited, just know that this gorgeous 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is strictly here to remind us why classic Mercs will never go out of style.

280SL

That’s not to say that the 280SL, which we came across in an Automobile report, wouldn’t make a nice addition to someone’s collection. It’s just that apparently, after only being listed for less than two weeks on Bring A Trailer, the car has already found a home.

Then again, it’s easy to see this car’s beauty alone was enough to entice a buyer. Under the hood, the W113 features Mercedes’ 2.8-liter inline-six, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Inside, the car is just as stunning.

However, there’s a lot more to this vintage model that makes it more appealing than some of the other classics we’ve covered here at MB World. Take, for example, the fact that the ‘71 Mercedes coupe only has 88,438 original miles on the odometer, which equates to less than 2,00 miles a year.

The authenticity of the vehicle’s history is also validated, with all the original manuals, books, and maintenance schedules. Even the car’s wheels are date-coded to July 1970, and sport the original hubcaps, accented with 3/4″ whitewall tires.

So, if you’ve been on the hunt for a classic 280SL, consider this the one that got away.
