2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon: Long Live the Long Roof

AMG might be adding more and more models, but the wagon is true to its core constituents.

For some reason, Europe has seen the brilliance that is the station wagon, but that’s not exactly the case in the ‘States. Wagons are often not seen as the cool vehicle to have. They are the unloved, distant cousin of the SUV. Such disdain for the Wagon has led to the creation of the CUV and the crossover. Apparently, we’d rather have any other type of vehicle, so long as it isn’t one that we associate with having wood paneling on the side.

Mercedes-AMG knows there are at the very least a few devotees to this style of car, however. They are the ones who still see the wagon as having the room of an SUV and the dynamic capabilities of a sedan. That’s why AMG is continuing to make the E63 S wagon.

Carrying over the 4.0 liter V8, AMG has powered this long roof car with 603 horsepower and 627 lb/ft of torque. Regardless of the vehicle carrying such an engine, it’s gonna be fast. From a standstill, the E63 S will hit 60 miles per hour in 3.4 seconds. V-max is reached at 180.

As with most E63 S wagons, the car will be special order, built to the specifications of the customer. Hand over $106,950, and you’ll get yours. Air ride, a 9 speed automatic and brake discs the size of most car’s rims are all included. Add on options, however, and you’ll see the price climb ever higher. But when it comes to the world’s fastest rig, can you ask for anything more?

AMG has had a long history with making uber-wagons, from the very first Hammer 300E all the way up to today’s E63 S. Check them out in the gallery below.
