1966 230SL Beautifully Restored by Romania’s Oldtimer Studio

As you can see in the video below, the guys over at Fifth Gear sent Tiff Needell to Romania to discover a hidden secret of Romania. This 230SL was restored by a shop called Oldtimer Studio, which is probably not what you’d normally think of when imagining Romania. However, their restorations have attracted clients from all over Europe due to exchange rates that make Romanian labor prices quite low.

Tiff takes a drive in one of their prime examples, which comes in the form of a 1966 230SL. You’d never know it from outward appearances, but it was originally brought to Oldtimer Studio in quite poor condition inside and out. The cost of the restoration was a hefty sum, but the cost of that service and the car’s current value make it a wise investment.

The best part of the deal comes in the form of a car that feels showroom new, even if it is a humble 230SL. This  includes imperfections. The rather soft suspension highlights that it was designed nearly a half century ago, as do the brakes that stick with drum brakes out back. But when you’re doing a correct restoration, that’s exactly the way it should be.
