Spying on the next ML63 AMG
Interested in what the next generation ML63 AMG will look like? Well, here are a few spy shots to help you imagine. These photos show AMG’s flagship ML63 doing some testing in Europe. Don’t mistake these for a prototype that was spied upon earlier this year. This baby has larger cross-drilled brake discs behind even bigger sports wheels, while its rear has a characteristically ominous dual exhaust tail pipes.
Now, comparing it to the current model, this test mule seems to have quite a similar wheel base, although it has shorter overhands up front and back, as differentiated from a more compact 2009 model. But, as with any comparison, it always pays to look under the hood rather than anything else. Because that’s where the true character of a vehicle lies, whether new or old.
The new ML63 AMG will most likely be powered by Mercedes-Benz’s brand new 5.5-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine, thus providing basis for the flagship ML-Class model retaining AMG’s ’63′ badge. This engine features direct injection, and while it has a smaller displacement, it should be able to easily churn out 400kW power and 800Nm of torque, topping even the naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter engine’s 390kW power and 630Nm torque. Unbelievable? You better believe it.
