AMG Wants to Sell You Bags with Burnout Marks on Them

Probably one of the more bizarre offerings from car related high end luxuries that I’ve seen. Here’s a novel idea from the marketing department at the AMG’s Driving Performance team, in which public reaction has so far been a hilarious and (almost) unanimous: “NO.”

Best reaction so far:

“Okay, someone at Mercedes came up with this idea while they were high.”

Points might not be won for actual application and utility, but I’ll give them a nod for the creativity and novelty aspect. In this campaign, they’ll be offering a slew of high-end leather goods, permanently etched with the burnout marks the earth wrenching Euro-spec CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake.

The concept is a working partnership with unique fashion company, Destroy vs Beauty. The designer leather goods line will include everything from full size tote bags to iPad covers. Truth be told, I’m not really sure who the target audience would be for these items. Imagine the scenario:

Deep pocketed corporate exec, driving his CLS63 AMG SB is an ultimate gear head and decides to give his wife the ultimate expression of his love. Her response:

“Oh… thanks. A bag with tire marks.”
