Set to debut in Munich in September, new group featuring AMG, G-Class and Maybach meant to slim down costs, focus upon high-margin sales.

Within the halls of Stuttgart, Mercedes-Benz’s three sub-brands offer a different spin on the company’s own soul. AMG, of course, pushes the envelope of performance to new heights, all in the name of dominance on and off the track. Maybach, meanwhile, dials up the luxury past 11 to attract those wanting the finest things in life. Finally, the G-Class represents what Mercedes can do on the high street, the highway, and upon the highest cliffs.

Come September, the three entities will all come together in a new way. According to Automotive News, the new group featuring AMG, Maybach and the G-Class will make its formal debut at the Munich Auto Show.

“Strengthening the sub-brands is an important pillar in the Mercedes-Benz strategy,” a Daimler spokesperson said. “We will not only maintain the independence, strong identities and evolved corporate cultures of the individual brands, but also further expand and sharpen them. Currently, we are in the process of designing it and evaluating the potential in the various areas.”

Expected to lead the new group will be AMG CEO Philipp Scheimer, though nothing is yet confirmed, per Motor 1. According to Automotive News, the move to place AMG, Maybach and G-Class into a group is part of Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius’ plan to gain more high-margin sales while boosting profitability and productivity. Combining the three entities into a single unit will slim costs down when it comes to marketing.

While the planned organizational chart for the new Mercedes group remains unknown, there are no plans at the moment to spin-off the entity. All of this, though, comes as AMG and G-Class are expecting new members to join their respective families. AMG will release its first hybrids to the U.S. market this fall.

Meanwhile, the G-Class could soon be part of the EQ line of electric vehicles, dubbed the EQG. Finally, Maybach just returned to the world of the living in 2020 with its own take on the Mercedes S-Class. All in all, it’s going to be a different road for the trio come September. We can’t wait to see it.
