Spy Shots of Refreshed SLK, aka the New SLC Roadster

Mercedes is in the middle of a pretty huge lineup refresh that is seeing the company update or modify nearly every model. Part of this change is the adoption of new model names. One of the latest to go under the knife is the SLK, which sadly from henceforth will be referred to as the SLC.

Yes, I think it’s stupid too.

Regardless of how we all feel about the model name, the current SLK is getting a little long in the tooth and needs a few updates. Based on these new spy shots we have, the car will be getting massaged, but nothing too dramatic is changing in the overall design.

The grille looks to be new, the bumper is revised and the headlamps have been altered, but the same low nose and square front profile appear to remain. We didn’t get any shots of the rear of the car, but it’s still easy to see the tail lights are getting some upgrades as well.

Speaking of upgrades, one of the biggest enhancements to the new SLC is going to be taking place under the hood. Currently the SLK55 is one of only two naturally aspirated AMG models that still exist, so expect that engine to fade into the ether as Mercedes brings one of the newer twin-turbo motors to the lineup. I personally prefer the free-breathing V8, but it’s hard to argue with the results AMG has provided with their new bi-turbo units.

Considering the light camo, and the subtle nature of the changes, this refresh should be ready to debut before the year is over, with sales hopefully starting around this time next year.
