Drifting an Old W202

The W202 Has Rear-Wheel Drive, but Is It Any Good at Drifting, or Just Too Soft to Slide Through a Corner?

If there was ever a question that didn’t need asking, this has got to be it. Trying to make an old C-Class drift around a corner might be good fun in the snow, but on dry land? We feel that is asking a bit too much from the car.

Car Throttle seeks to answer such an unnecessary question in the video above. They bought a cheap, 1994 C180, and it appears to be ready for a thrashing.

Soft suspension doesn’t really lend itself to kicking the tail out. And as expected, under-steer is met quite quickly. Throwing it into a corner at high-speed just doesn’t do any good. Low horsepower means that even if you stab at the throttle, still nothing happens. The one and only solution is the fabled Scandinavian-flick.

Loading up the weight on one side of the car, and quickly releasing it allows the back to swing out, and a graceful drift can be done. Okay, maybe not graceful. More like wobbly, slow and a bit unrefined. However, it definitely is possible to drift one of these bad boys. Are they going to show up and replace every Nissan? Probably not. But at least you know that if you wanted to, you can.
