Brabus Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6 Bring A Trailer Auction

Brabus-tuned 700 horsepower AMG 6×6 monster fails to sell despite lofty seven-figure bid on Bring A Trailer. How much was the reserve?

Recently, we brought you the story of this remarkable example of a G63 AMG 6X6. This insanely limited and expensive model is enough to catch the eye of anyone passing by (as if you could ignore it). However, this particular example is extra special for a couple of reasons. For one, iconic German tuning company Brabus modified this particular example and bumped the power output to 700.

Furthermore, this example is extra special because it’s already in the US. The 6X6 was not meant to be sold in the U.S. market, so it does not meet the safety and emissions regulations that allow it to be sold here. However, the G63 AMG 6X6 is one of a handful of models eligible for import under the Show and Display law. While this law limits annual mileage, it offers collectors the opportunity to bring special vehicles like this stateside.

So, one would think a millionaire collector would jump at the opportunity to own one already on US soil. Especially considering the cost of shipping one of these monsters overseas must be unfathomable. Well, one would think correctly. On its recently ended Bring A Trailer listing, this 6X6 attracted 27 bids, with the highest being a whopping $1.35 Million. Unfortunately, though, that wasn’t enough for the seller to let go. That begs the question; what was the reserve price?

Hard to Put a Price On It

Though we have no way to know for sure what the reserve price is, we think it’s not a penny less than $1.5 Million. If you’re curious about how we came to that conclusion, we’re happy to explain.

For one, the G63 AMG 6X6 is, in its own right, a scarce and expensive vehicle. Mercedes only ever built 100 of them, and they came with a loft price tag of $1 Million, to begin with. Now, add the fact that this has the magical Brabus touch (of which the total number is unknown). With a typical G wagon, Brabus having its way with it easily surpasses six figures on top of the original price of the vehicle. Finally, the amount of red tape associated with a Show and Display import combined with the massive cost of bringing this beast to the US in the first place has to bring the price tag to an insane number.

Thus, we can only imagine that $1.5 Million is a soft estimate of the total amount of money invested in this 6×6. Evidently, $1.35 Million just wouldn’t cut it for the seller of this example. Frankly, we can’t blame them!

Destination Unknown

Who’s to say whether or not this gargantuan G-wagon will make a return to Bring A Trailer. Only time will tell if the owner is really trying to get rid of it. What we do know, though, is there’s much more demand than there is supply for these rare machines. So, the seller is likely to get their price if they are patient enough.
