Go Inside Mercedes Accident Research Division
No doubt, this video is a response to the IIHS’ new crash tests. Although Mercedes clearly disagrees with the importance of the results, they plainly have no intention of allowing their good name to be besmirched by negative press.

To that end, they’ve released this video describing how they react when their cars are involved in accidents. Apparently, they have an entire branch devoted to accident research. Their jobs are to analyze what happens in an accident, and how they can improve their cars to deal with a variety of situations.

It’s a fairly reassuring piece. I mean, Mercedes have typically been known for being extraordinarily safe. Much of the new technology that you find in a Benz is there for the purpose of avoiding an accident in the first place. Blind spot assist, lane keeping assist, et cetera. They might not have passed that test, but they’re about as far from “unsafe” as you can get.
