Leno Shows Off 1950 Mercedes Racecar Carrier

Mercedes Transporter

Nothing we see rolling around in Jay Leno’s garage should really surprise us, but this Mercedes-Benz still is a sight to behold. In all honesty, I’m not sure if I’m most intrigued by the 1950 racecar transporter, or the further confirmation that Mr. Leno is one of the luckiest guys alive.

The rather odd-looking vehicle is powered by Mercedes’ famous 3.0-liter straight-six from the classic 300SL and was used to run racecars back and forth from the tracks back to the ‘Benz factory for servicing, as highlighted in an Auto Week report.

The Mercedes racecar runner was eventually crushed. But a few replicas surfaced some time later, including one built by Mercedes for its museum in Stuttgart and the one owned by Leno, which was built by a Swedish gentleman.

Leno’s replica, however, was more of a showpiece when he got it. But after adding a few mods — like a better air suspension — it has become the perfect carrier for his gullwing Mercedes, another one of the vintage collectibles that Leno owns.

Like I said, he’s one of the luckiest men alive.
