MBWorld Commercial Break: Lewis Hamilton & Bahrain

bahrain protest

The Bahrain Grand Prix takes place this weekend and, of course, the main storyline will be the event itself. Unrest cancelled the Grand Prix two years ago, and last season heavy protests and an attack from the Anonymous hacker group received a large amount of press coverage. Expect more of the same this season, with protests before the race already taking place.

Bahrain’s situation does deserve press coverage and critical thought, but the show that is Formula 1 will go on. I’d rather this commercial break not be seen as a distraction from all that is happening in Bahrain, but I want to get MBWorld focused on Lewis Hamilton’s performance thus far in the season.

Hamilton crashed during testing in Jerez and said the car wouldn’t be looking for race wins this season.

At Melbourne he took a commendable 5th

Kuala Lampur he bounced back to take a podium finish, though with some controversy.

And at Shanghai, in just his third race with the team, he took pole position and 3rd place.

This is the last of the fly-away races for a long while, which means the cars are now four races old and in need of  upgraded parts. It’s quicker and more cost effective to bring the new bits and pieces for the European leg of the season so this race in Bahrain is very much about driver skill.  Historically, Hamilton hasn’t been at his best at the Sakhir International Circuit, but this season we have seen a new Lewis Hamilton emerge.  The car has been pretty quick all year so inductive logic says that this weekend could be a good one for the Brit. But that’s why they race.

Links to videos throughout the post. Here’s a cool and informative one from the team’s F1 channel about Lewis’s seat. Enjoy the video and the race. Be on the lookout for posts all weekend about the action in Bahrain at 6speedonline

Quick addition! They’re teammates now but who else remembers this from last season’s race? One of my favorite moments. It’s like F1’s Pass on the Grass but replace the grass with sand.
