2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG Coupe

The new Mercedes GLE 450 AMG Sport coupe is now upon us, and it’s direct rival has already done an incredible job of setting the bar. You simply can’t mention this car without mentioning the X6 in the same breath. Though the GLE Coupe is new, much of what’s found on the inside is familiar to the current Mercedes lineup including the COMAND system with integrated controls and touch pad, along with the instrumentation. What’s new on this version though are the things you can’t see from the driver’s seat.

Momentum is created by a V6 assisted by a brace of turbos together generating 362 horsepower, and if that’s not to your fancy, the much more powerful — all 577 horsepower worth — GLE63 AMG is available. Pavement is dealt with via air suspension and a unique sway bar system that’ll smooth things out or tighten up, depending on what drive mode you’ve selected from within the cockpit.

Will all of this mean the GLE Coupe can steal some of the thunder from the X6? It’s very possible. Objectively speaking the Mercedes does have a higher visual appeal than the BMW, looking a bit less like the sister vehicle with which it shares a chassis. Though the final results are up to the buyers.

But the real question is what does Motor Authority think of it? Find out in the video below.
