Did Mercedes-Benz Ruin the E63 AMG by Giving It AWD?

E63 AMG

Did Mercedes-Benz smash the dreams of weight-lifting, steroid-popping, matte-paint-crazy AMG lovers everywhere? After all, vehicles like the E63 AMG were designed to be bonkers, to be ridiculous, and to turn tire rubber into smoke.

You may have already heard about the new generation, and still bonkers, AMG E63. In the “S” trim, it produces 604 horsepower, and it’s capable of reaching a (limited) speed of over 180 mph. While you and I may consider that more than enough, other’s may find it “civil,” or “tamed,” when compared to its predecessors. I’m referring to Mercedes’s new battle against Audi’s Quattro.

Here’s the big question: is the magic gone now that the E63 AMG has a fancy all-wheel drive system? The people want to know! YouTube automotive star, Alex Goy, says it isn’t. And according to this video by Carfection, the answer is no. Heck no.

Regardless of how you feel about the all-wheel drive, there’s nothing “tame” about the new E63 AMG. It’s quite the opposite, especially with the new “drift mode.” But just in case you aren’t sure, fast forward to the 1:20 mark and see the matte-black beauty drift like there’s no tomorrow.

Wealthy horsepower-freaks can already drop big loads of cash to get on the waiting list. But if you’re anything like me, watching this awesome video is the only chance you’ll have at drifting an E63 AMG!
