Video: Mercedes SLS AMG vs. Lamborghini Huracán

By -

This what happens when you take an 800-horse Mercedes SLS AMG and pit it against a Lamborghini Huracan.

The Russian outfit DragTimes captured a full summer festival of drag racing, including this race in the Unlimited 500+ horsepower category. The Mercedes SLS AMG has a Weistec twin-screw supercharger and a Morendi M800 tune taking it all the way to 800 horses. The Huracán LP610-4 has just 610 horses on tap and no details on modifications.

If you’re thinking that last number sounds odd, it’s because an LP610-4 comes from the factory with 602 horses. We can’t find a stat for this particular car’s torque, but in stock form, the V10 delivers 412 lb-ft. It does have four-wheel-drive to help it off the line though.

This really is a race between chalk and cheese. The Mercedes is an elegant-yet-brutal V8 SLS AMG with drive going to the rear. The Lamborghini? It’s an ostentatious car with a shouty V12 driving all four wheels. On paper, the slightly lighter mid-engined four-wheel-drive car should get off the line first. The real battle should be in the meat of the half-mile drag race.

That’s not how it plays out. It’s worth watching the video to see what actually happens.

His obsession with cars started young and has left him stranded miles off-road in Land Rovers, being lost far from home in hot hatches, going sideways in rallycross cars, being propelled forward in supercars and, more sensibly, standing in fields staring at classic cars. His first job was as a mechanic and then trained as a driving instructor before going into media production.

The automotive itch never left though, and he realized writing about cars is his true calling. However, that doesn’t stop him from also hosting the Both Hand Drive podcast.
