One-Owner SLS AMG Black Series Double Price of New Black Series!
SLS AMG Black Series delivered new in November 2013, lived in owner’s private collection since, only racked up around 175 miles.
If there’s anything more hardcore than an AMG, it’s a Black Series AMG. While most of Affalterbach’s lineup leans a little more towards performance while keeping the luxury, the Black Series throws the luxury out for all-out domination the track. They’re also a rarity; since the mid-2000, just six models were chosen to carry the black flag.
One of those models was the SLS AMG Black Series. Introduced in 2012 for the 2013 model year, the gullwinged demon slammed down the gauntlet with a 6.3-liter V8 packing 631 horses and 468 lb-ft of torque. Recently, Autoevolution happened upon one for sale, and it has quite the price tag. Perhaps for good reason, though.
Offered up by Mechatronik in Pleidelsheim, Germany, this SLS AMG Black was delivered new to its only owner in November 2013. Since then, it’s only traveled around 175 miles. In fact, the owner never intended to drive it at all, preferring to show it off in his private collection. However, changing regulations prompted the owner to get the AMG legalized for the road in 2015. If he didn’t do so, there wouldn’t be another chance.
Still, the SLS AMG Black looks exactly like it did when it was delivered. To think this ride was the pinnacle of performance and technology nearly eight years ago. You definitely won’t find a CD player in any AMG today, nor analog gauges.
You also won’t find a 6.3-liter V8 today, either. The 2021 GT Black Series packs a smaller 4.0-liter V8 with a pair of turbos in a hot-V configuration. However, the newest member blows away the SLS AMG Black Series with 720 horses and 590 lb-ft of torque to the rear.
The new car also blows away the SLS AMG Black on price. While you can pick up a GT Black Series for just over $326,000 to start, this one is available for around $792,000. That said, if you’re in the market for a museum piece, this one will do just fine.
