Would Mercedes Ever Make an EQS AMG Black Series?

Will the end of internal combustion also mean the end of Black Series cars from AMG? We’re not entirely sure.

AMG has embraced electrification. Fully. The AMG ONE supercar takes hybrid tech directly from Formula 1 and implements it in their highest performing road car, ever. Their GT73e will do much the same, using some zap to make the AMG line faster than ever. Even the C63 is in a transition to remove piston power in exchange for electric motors. Last but not least, we know the Mercedes EQS will be getting the AMG treatment. But What about the special AMGs? Would they make a Black Series version?

One artist has answered this question via a rendering. AutoEvolution reports this EQS Black Series could be the extreme version of the aforementioned EQS AMG sedan. Features, like an extreme amount of vents, are featured on this car as they have appeared on Black Series cars of the past. AutoEvolution questions the use of vents due to the lack of a combustion engine. But don’t forget, brakes get hot, power modules get hot and even with an electric motor, cooling is a high priority. So vents on an EV are not out of place.

Perhaps the wing is, though. Granted we know it’s possible to make an EV car remarkably quick. But on-track behavior from a heavy vehicle is a whole other story. Though EV motorsports might take off more in the future, EV tech lends itself to be more luxury oriented, if only for the way it can deliver its immense reserves of power.

For now, there’s no indication that a Black Series EQS would ever be a thing. But, considering the string of super high end hypercars from the likes of McLaren, Pagani, Gordon Murray Automotive and others, it wouldn’t surprise us is an AMG ONE Black Series were to appear in ultra limited production form. Perhaps it wouldn’t even be street legal, and could set the performance world on its ear with unbelievable performance figures. After all, like these other hypercars, it wouldn’t have a rulebook to follow. Not like AMG really did that in the first place.
