Ah, the beauty of December.

Yup, that’s usually about the time we start seeing a lot of teasers and spy shots for cars debuting at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month. The trouble is, unless it’s a speculative new model or a drastic departure from the previous one, if the cars are spied in full camouflage, details are kind of left to your imagination.

That said, it appears that the basic design for the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe will be pretty much sticking to script, as highlighted in a recent Motor Authority report. The speculation is that most of the new design elements will come in the subtler details, taking cues from the C-Class Coupe and S-Class Coupe, the two Mercedes-Benz stablemates the new E-Class will sit between.

Expect a lighter coupe in the new model with the new MRA rear-wheel-drive platform. Which means it’ll also be available with 4Matic all-wheel drive, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
