Learn How to Totally Wreck a C63 AMG at Low Speed

By -

This is what exactly what happens when you drive a C63 AMG like a madman in a traffic circle.

As car enthusiasts who like to drive fast cars, we get it — there’s no shortage of justifications for driving fast on the street. If you’re going to do it, just don’t do it around a bunch of people. This YouTube video by SuperCarChannel92 is proof why. Don’t drive a car, let alone a C63 AMG, like a fool.

The incident took place during a Gumball Meet in Manchester, England, where a bunch of enthusiasts drive around a  busy roundabout. At any rate, the guy in question is driving a white W204 C63 AMG. These things are great: 6.2 liters of naturally-aspirated goodness, a glorious exhaust note, and plenty of power on tap without being terribly dated. It was obviously too much for this guy, however.

C63 AMG Crashes

The driver makes it past the cameraman a few times before losing control. He sticks the front corner of the C63 into a solid metal pole, and the damage is astounding. With a 40 kph speed limit (just shy of 25 mph) amount of damage was shocking. He was obviously speeding at this point, but his earlier passes show that he had trouble getting on the gas for more than a few seconds. However, seconds are all these things take. Motor Trend clocked the 2008 model back in the day as taking 4.1 seconds to hit 60 mph. Even 45-65 mph just took two seconds.

C63 AMG Crash

The other part of the equation is likely where he hit the post. Here in the U.S., the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) runs a front collision test called “small overlap.” It simulates this kind of crash almost perfectly, and many cars fail at it miserably. Cars are typically reinforced to pass the frontal collision test, or a moderate overlap crash, where most of the front of the car absorbs the force. However, this appeared to have missed the bumper reinforcements and reminds us of how much plastic goes onto cars these days. It’s not pretty.

So remember, drive safely and don’t hit poles.
