We Wish Mercedes Made a W126 S-Class Wagon

S-class Wagon W126 560 TEL

This 560 TEL S-class wagon was never offered by Mercedes, but we can think of a number of reasons why they should have made it.

Caro International is a company in Germany that does some amazing things with vehicles. They mostly make armored rides, but every once in a while, they make something for those who don’t have to dodge projectiles. In this instance, we see one of Caro’s creations, a 560 TEL wagon. Although it might look familiar, according to CarScoops, this wagon is a one-off.

If we rewind back to the 1980’s, the Mercedes-Benz lineup was fairly simple. You had the W201, W124, W126 and R129. With the exception of the R129, each sedan was also offered in a variety of different door configurations. But if you wanted a wagon, the W124 was the only choice. But with the late 80’s boom in economy, people were willing to spend money on what they want.

If you wanted something special, Caro would gladly accept your your money. Then, according to the Stuart Parr Collection (where this car is up for auction), Caro would use factory level quality and factory parts from the W124 to create this exquisite W126 wagon. It uses the rear lights and rear glass, but since it is a Euro-spec model, it also has the visually appealing short bumpers and glass headlights.

Being a 560 TEL, the engine would be the M117 V8. This 275 horsepower motor wouldn’t exactly deliver AMG HAMMER levels of performance, though it would be fairly stout in an era when the high performance SUV simply didn’t exist. In fact, most mainstream SUV’s hadn’t even hit the market yet.

The Stuart Parr Collection is actually the current purveyor of this W126 S-class wagon. Price? You must inquire, of course. But it has us thinking of what the value of something like this might be. It is not an official Mercedes Benz model. To someone who has to have unique and interesting Mercedes in their collection, the desirability of this car is off the charts. With just over 100,000km on the odometer, this W126 shows like new, and would be a great vehicle to have in a collection which sees regular drives.
