Wow! First crack at a non-released vehicle. That is impressive for C&D and explains why there is no set price on the RS4 yet. I wonder if Audi regrets the test since their S4 beat the competition soundly, but the RS4 could not.

It's too bad the they didn't put the cars throught their usual instrumented tests. I really wanted to know how the performance numbers compare between these 3 cars.

Anyways, I think you guys are in denial about the price of the RS4. Remember, the RS4 is not meant to replace the S4. It will likely be sold alongside the S4. As such, the RS4 is very likely to be more expensive than the S4.

Went to the Audi dealership recently to service my wife's A4. I inquired about the upcoming RS4. In Canada, the S4 currently sells for ~$68000 CAD. I was told that the upcoming RS4 will be around ~$90000 CAD.

I would buy the idea of the RS4 being priced about 10K above the S4 assuming that fully loaded it were within 1-2K of the relatively expensive M3/C55's when they are full loaded. It sounds as previously mentioned that it will not walk away from the C55 and is definetly going to get pummeled by a 400 hp M3 and get a run for its money from the new AMG as well. A 70K price tag may work if they plan on bringing in only a very few units, less than a 1000 as it will be a boutique car in that Audiphiles will buy them for their rarity and not for its sheer performance which is substantial but not class ruling.

I think this is it....As you can tell this is one of the most evenly analyzed comparisons that I have seen in C & D to date.

Bottom line: They're all great cars...well the RS4 will be too....once released.

BTW: Pretty funny about the RS4 seats that'll never make it here!

^ hey, there you go. read the 'at the end of the day' section of this article. it says audi will go for estimated $80,000.

i wasn't lying!

regardless what they put in this entry level Audi, it's not worth 80k especially when C55 and M3 are really damn close.

Why are the RS4's performance numbers the only ones that are estimated? Man that big nose grill sure is ugly. Thinking of getting a C55 after all that.

how come the RS4's gear ratios are so tall? shouldnt they be even shorter than the M3's since its even higher revving?

maybe thats why the numbers are so slow?

Looks like C&D got to drive a pre-release RS4, but didn't get to test it like the others. No skidpad numbers or braking distances, and only estimated acceleration numbers. Pretty cheesy comparo, but interesting none the less. I bet the RS4 will still rule at The Ring. Don't know about you guys, but I have absolutely no desire to buy one regardless of true measured data even if it is in the 70's.

nope because this car has like 100 more ftlb of torque than the m3 does.

whats with all this talk all of a sudden with the new rs4 about f1 tech.its about time BMW has been using parts from its f1 team for years now.Just look at the m5 engine.The whole thing was designed by the williams f1 team at the f1 plant.Its also using an magnisium alluminum alloy mix block.Name a few cars out there other than f1 cars that use this to build there blocks.

the 4 year old m3 has done the ring in well under 8 min and audi has still yet to beat it with any of its r/rs line cars and you think the next m will be any different?

Ummm....per Auto Motor und Sport's testing, the RS6 beat the M3 at the Ring. Not bad for a bulky awd understeering mammoth. Check it out.

friends neighbhor has a 03 RS6 sounds really beasty, but id take a W211 E55 over that car any day. At the end of the day the bland styling of the AUDI, plus the boring interior(i cant stand to look at orange all day everyday) would get to me.

why should it be alot higher? There is no correct value. the overall gearing (gear ratio x diff ratio) is whats important.
Perhaps they needed a 4.11 diff due to their awd system and correspondingly had to choose higher gears to maintain the overall gearing to suit the engine

I am just using Auto Motor Und Sport's results, since they are the definitive source for Ring/Hock tests in Germany. Is the CSL available in the States?

Doesn't the CSL weigh 440 lbs less than the standard M3... I don't think it's fair to compare an ultra light coupe which weighs 3050 lbs to a 4060 lb RS6 sedan... Why can't you simply admit that the RS6 is a well engineered car which manages its weight well..
