Makin sure the C55/32 Brothas are hooked up on the ECU Reset...IT SMOKES!!!!

Spread the word

1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.

2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.

3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.

yup, works great! do this about once a week to keep your throttle response nice and crisp, especially if this car is your daily driver...

Now I know why everytime I re-dyno my car it loses WHP.

I commute to work 70 miles round trip in heavy traffic and this ECU reset before each dyno might give a better measure of my car's true power.

Brilliant!! I have had to drive slow and steady the last 2 days because of rain. I thought I was going to have to bring it in to the dealership because there was no kickdown or throttle response unless I floored it. Did this 2 minute fix and I'm back. The ESP kicked on at 50MPH as it shifted (wet road). Now if only we knew the code for the ejector seat and the revolving license plates.

Look, this is the first time I ever heard something like this. I am certainly going to try it. 28000 km, I have been feeling the car is less and less responsive in the throttle, hopeless kick-down and even the usual top range speed like 170km/h which I now find difficult to get to within a short moment like in the old days when the car was new. I will memorize this procedure by heart. Can't wait to try it. Thanks.

But why a ECU reset will improve the car performance?

Right after above post, I tried the procedure, and YES , my car accelerate as like it is back to as it was new again! Sht, without applying much force and attention on the gas pedal, driven it normally, it was always 135 km/h at 5th gear instead of 100km/h !

BTW, for C55, is this effect appling to all M/S/C modes? Or just S/C?

I would think this would be the same for a C43..........I could just go outside and try it though.

Seems a little odd, and I def have my doubts......but I'll give it a shot later on.

If this works, it should be made a Sticky so we don't forget or lose this info!

My bigger questions are:

1. Can we keep it from reverting back?

2. I've heard that various ECU kits (like the Kleemann ECU and pulley kit that I'm going to get installed in July) give more power, and yadda yadda, but also more linear throttle response. Will the Kleemann ECU revert back like this or stay linear? Will doing this procedure on the Kleemann ECU do anything good or bad or nothing?

This absolutely works! Mine was lagging on initial throttle and idling roughly upon start-up. I just did this reset and it is like it was when new. I have to be careful with the throttle again. There is zero lag. I did not even realize how sluggish the throttle had become. Thanks, Jakpro1!

Any C55 owners try this yet?

Just wanted to check, it doesn't reset anything else on the car, does it? Just the throttle response correct? Thanks guys

Does this also work for a 2003 CLK55? I take it as long as the car is not on it can't hurt anything....right?

It seems to work for a car w/ ECU... tried it on my E55, C55 and even my Maxima.... my foot is quite heavy already... so no big difference in acceleration (my certified butt dyno says faster but don't feel it like night and day)... but the shift points are VERY different.

Yes, we should make it sticky....

It doesn't seem so.... only the data used by ECU to control adaptive throttle and transmission shift to optimize gas economy and smoothness...

I did try this yesterday, as well as to my E55 and Maxima.... and boy, I fall in love with all of my cars again

ya, just like zoink said, it just re maps the adaptive throttle control. You can do it as many times as you would like and it should not harm the car at all

Yesterday, I did this 'reset procedure' the first time. I tested the car for about 20 mins though did not get the chance to do more than 130km/h. I did not find any other odd things or anything funny e.g. the headlamps auto on, auto folding mirror were all still working as usual.
I am gonna test the car again today!

How do you know if your car has "ECU"? And what is it? Do you think my 97' SL320 has it?

Is the pedal supposed to be pushed all the way to the floor...past the kickdown switch/button?

Thanks.
