remove front speakers, install amp - 1984 190E

how do i remove the front speakers from my 1984 190E?
and another question.. does anybody know forsure which wires are ground, power, etc on the stock becker radio.

and a third question: what is the easiest way to get a power cable (for an amp) from the engine bay to the boot/under the backseat.
cheers, any help would be useful.

Two screws on the grille cover, then grille will pop up. Pull it forward and up to remove.

Wiring is:

Memory (+12v Constant) Red
Ignition (+12v Switched) Black/Yellow
Ground (-) Brown
Illumination Gray/Blue
Dimmer (none)
Power Antenna Blue
S p e a k e r s
Right Front (+) Black/Green
Right Front (-) Black
Left Front (+) Black/Red
Left Front (-) Black
Right Rear (+) Black/Green
Right Rear (-) Black
Left Rear (+) Black/Red
Left Rear (-) Black

Run power down the passenger side. If you pull the backseat you will see some grommets leading to the trunk (boot).

wait.... the brown wire is the ground for the becker radio? i remember seeing a wire not connected to anything an i think it was the brown one... would this explain why the radio suddenly cuts out and switches itself on and off repeatedly at high volumes and occasionaly when the lights are on?

well thanks anyway, the power cables are all i really need as i am rewiring all the speaker cables, and i will find a new ground. thankyou for your help.

as to the front speakers... i can get the grills off fine, thats the easy part... but i cant get the speakers out of the holes. iv tried to lever them out with a knife or screwdriver but i cant get metal, i just get the cardboard like surround . i hope i dont have to take the dash apart...

They should pop out. The years make them stick a bit, but they aren't screwed in and taking the dash out is overkill. Keep prying with a flat tip screwdriver, they will pop out...

Because of the location of the speakers relative to the windshield, it helps to have a flat, ratcheting screwdriver.

I was thinking of having Circuit City install the radio, the rear speakers went in ok, the fronts didn't fit, sold them in a day for cost on Craigslist. MB is as bad as Dell with their proprietary equipment/parts

My sunroof switch went out a few weeks ago, the clown selling me the car said the motor was going, it was actually the switch going out. I had to use the spark plug wrench and the little thing in the trunk to close the damned thing. Got a new switch and everything is hunky dory.

I just hate that Becker!!!!

Maybe I'll get it from Crutchfield instead, they are good about giving free connectors/wiring harnesses for their radios. I'm used to simple cars, had a Geo Metro with power nothing the last 9 years. Now I have an over-engineered, power-everything Benz
