power window relay live at all times??
so my question is this...why the heck is this relay on the left live and turned on at all times? i've swapped it with the relay on the other side, which isn't always on,and same deal...i dont think its a relay issue, i think it has to do with the fuse box...
any ideas?
matt
Yes that is the relay for the windows. It should not have any reaction when the key is out.
Window fuses are 7 and 8.
I can't see any reason why it would be active at all times with my wiring diagram, the issue would be between the battery and fuse box.
Your blue fuse is blown.
W201 190D 1991 Window relay constant 0.24 Amp draw.
I have a battery draining at 0.24 Amps. Pulling Fuse 12 sorts that, but, pulling the Window relay also sorts the issue – except windows do not work of course. I have discovered that the window relay is constantly energised.
Looking at wring diagram, Fuse 12 is fed from Ignition switch, as are other circuits on Fuse 12, when switch is position 2.
Having tested all from Fuse 12 (Rear Dome, Antenna feed etc.), and disconnected the door switches, Window relay remains energised. My conclusions so far are that:
1. Incorrect window relay fitted – seems possible but unlikely.
2. Diode under fuse box – probably not as other circuits on Fuse 12 are live with Ignition off and key removed.
3. Factory fitted alarm – but have unplugged all alarm connections to test on alarm boxes under passenger toe board and behind radio (Becker units)
4. Ignition switch faulty – are they know to fail?
Forum assistance will be most welcome.

So the way the electric windows work on our 93 is,
With the ignition key out and either the passenger door or drivers door open the door relay R2 stays energised and either front windows can still be operated from the consul switches.
With the doors closed ignition key still out R2 is de energised and the windows now cannot be operated from the consul.
This can be proved by either sitting in the car and opening/closing the doors or by pushing by hand the lower door switch near the door hinge and feeling/listening to the relay R2 clicking in/out, bonnet open and fuse box lid open.
Hope my post helps as I could not find any electrical drawing showing the wiring link between doors and the power window operation that are available on the internet.
Best regards to all
