I can't help it if you don't like the facts. The fact is, the AMG MLs came with additional features that the non AMG MLs didn't have, none the least of which is a hand built engine. The AMG Mls are much rarer than the non AMG MLs and they deserve to be preserved. It's not my fault you don't like my viewpoint that's different from yours. I've given my viewpoint that the AMG ML should've been preserved.I was done with this thread before you started your name calling because you don't like my viewpoint. You need to knock off your name calling and move on.

Hi Matt, Good luck with the project. I'll be following closely as I have a 190e Cosworth 2.3 which requires some rust issues. I am completely undecided weather to restore back to original (the purest choice) or to make a EVO II replica and enhance the performance along the way. No engine swaps just increase BHP of 2.3 16V, suspension and brake upgrades.

Well if you revived this thread I might as well give an update on the current status - the ML55 AMG M113 engine is out. It was a nightmare but it's out.
The engine is in very good condition - no oil leaks - very happy about that. Now I have to sell what is left of the ML

On the W201, we installed the YSR coilovers as well the ML55 front brakes. It all worked great with the small spacer I had CNC made.
We also installed the W210 E-class steering rack with a modified steering column.
I test-fitted the fender flares from the bodykit and was pleasantly surprised. Very good fitment
I also got a set of "budget" 3-piece wheels - 18" Rial Daytonas. I had the faces machined to get a more aggressive look. They will be entirely painted in a BBS LM F1 gold color with black anodized bolts.
The next steps are fabricating engine mounts, modifying the transmission tunel and installing the engine and gearbox. Still a long way to go.

Agreed looking good, I like the gold wheels especially. The ML brake set up is a possible option for me, your wheels are 18" and without checking I think the original evo II wheels are only 17" and probably not big enough?
Great news about the fitment so far of the body kit as that is what lead me to this thread.
Have either of you two seen the 190 in sema this year, great effort but to exterme for me (1000-1600BHP).

ML55 has the same brakes as ML430 so you can find a cheap set on ebay. These brakes will clear 17" wheels - you can see some pics here:

Today I bought another EVO-style bodykit in Germany (second hand but never installed, great price). It's not a 100% true EVO II kit - it's called Rieger EVO III and I am planning to use a few parts from it - the sideskirts, door panels and front fenders as they are one-piece and don't have the huge wheel gap as the EVO II cars. We'll see how it fits

BTW I sold the ML today for 1500 USD - originally bought the car for 2200 USD. After selling the 190e 2.3 engine and gearbox, the entire engine and brake swap cost me 342 USD

 

Thanks for the brake info Matt. I wish you had not pointed out the arch issue! The Rieger arches look way better. I have never noticed the EVO arches but now they look huge. If the rest of your kit goes together well I think I'll stick with them just for the originality of a replica!

Yes, definitely would recommend them. The fitment and quality is very good on the Topbodykit one.

The second bodykit I bought is a Rieger Evo III kit, however I would not buy for the price it costs new (3500-4000€). If I were to spend that much money, I would definitely choose the Goeckel EVO II kit. It's probably the best one out there, but it's pricey.

 

Okay that is awesome to hear. I took a look at the Goeckel kit, and while it looks good, it is indeed quite pricey. I will most likely be going for that Topbodykit for my beater standard 2.6 haha. Thanks so much for your response. I look forward to see what your finished product looks like!

How's the clearance between the brake disc and ball joint?
Does someone sell the caliper adaptors? If not, works you mind posting the cad file?

 

The W211 E-class rack is a common modification on engine-swapped 190s. We cut off the old brackets and had new custom ones welded onto the crossmember.
Now we need to find the right steering rods. I hope the pics show everything you need to know.

As for the brakes, there is enough room between the disc and ball joint.

Here are some updates on the project. We had to cut some of the bulkhead in the engine bay as we wanted to have the engine as far back as possible.
We made some custom engine brackets and used OEM Mercedes engine mounts. It sits perfect now. Because the ML55 M113 engine has a different oil pan, we had to cut off the cooling fins so it wouldn't hit the steering rack.
We also had to remove the EGR but it won't be needed anyway, so that's not an issue. We still have a small clearance issue with the air intake, as the ML55 engine has a single intake with a large diameter and it hits the bulkhead.

We then moved onto installing the 6-speed manual gearbox from the SLK320 R170 / Chrysler Crossfire.
As you can see we had to cut out quite a bit of the floor/center console.

We still have to:
- find and install steering rods,
- weld and paint all the cut out areas in the engine bay and floor
- install the 2.87 diff and find the right axles
- buy and install a custom driveshaft
- buy and install radiator
- other minor stuff.

Then standalone ECU and wiring, custom tune, bodykit install and paint.
I'll keep you guys posted

 

Any progress? You will have to modify the lower control arms for the steering rack at full turn. The transition for the steering shaft into the rack looks extreme. Check out my Hillbilly Hammer on youtube for my M113 into a W124. Lots of work!

Hi olszowa12, does the wheel arch of this kit set come with molded bolts or nuts? I am also very interested in this kit however their shop will not answer anything regarding installations...

The bumpers have molded bolts - that's for sure. I'll have to check the rest of the parts

Btw I also notice seems you only ordered the kits without side skirts and door panels, how are you gonna deal with that? The skirts and panel are extra options in topbodykit shop but very pricey.... They have all the parts for 3700 in total, a lot cheaper but I am not sure about the quality, they seem also to have a long-standing reputation as 190e specialist. Do you think if this could have better value considering the labor in their country is much cheaper than UK?

 

You are doing what I have been dreaming of for nearly 20 years,sort of. Had a 190 2.6 customer amg, person bought the car and right away dropped it of at amg. This was in 1988, I did 307 km/h with it on the gps (300km/h amg odo) and it felt like it could go even faster, 120 km/h in second gear ( 5 speed manual). Unfortunately it was my first car, I was 19 at the time and didn't appreciate what I had. It had street cred like you wouldn't believe, people came up to me and asking if it really did 300. It was stolen. It has always been a dream to somehow try and mimic what amg did to that car, but I don't think I would be able to pull it of without some serious help from (former) amg mechanics, just to ask them what they did to these cars back then. I have the vin, engine and gearbox numbers, do you think it can be done? Or just do it your way and do an engine swap?
