New Project: 190e EVO II replica with M113 5.4 AMG
Hello everyone,
Matt from Poland here - I haven't been very active on the forum since I sold my C63 a few years back.
I am starting a new project and would like to document it here as a build diary.
CAR:
1987 Mercedes 190e 2.3 8v 5-speed MT
Full AMG interior
Well equipped
DONOR:
2001 ML55 AMG
PROJECT GOALS:
Body: EVO II replica with Topbodykit.co.uk bodykit
Engine: M113 5.4 V8 347hp
Transmission: 722.6 5-speed auto with paddles (might switch to a manual if I find a 716.66 SLK320 MT)
Suspension: Yellow Speed Racing coilovers, W210 E-class steering rack
Brakes: ML55 AMG 4-piston calipers with 345mm front discs
Wheels: 18" BBS LM or custom mesh 3-piece wheels
Interior: OEM AMG interior + Lorinser (Momo M38) steering wheel
We'll see how it goes. For now, I have the donor car, project car, steering wheel and brake adapters. I will probably order the bodykit this week.
The engine swap will start around the 16th of July. Can't wait.
Regards,
Matt

I'm just curious. The ML55 AMG looks to be in good shape so I don't understand why you would take the engine from what looks to be a really good and rare ML for your project? Why don't you find an engine from an AMG that's been wrecked and can't otherwise be repaired would be my advise?

I bought it for 2000usd with a healthy engine and good brakes.
i’ll take what I need and sell it someone who needs the parts.
how much cheaper should a donor car be?

It seems to me to be a terrible waste to break up a still running, usable and rare AMG vehicle. It'll be much harder to sell without it's AMG engine. A wrecked vehicle that's no longer driivable is a much better and less expensive option for your purpose. Also the EvoII kits that are out there tend to be very expensive in addition to not fitting very well.

olszowa12,
With your w202, I'm presuming it's a 2.6.
Instead, why don't you swap it's with an M103 or M104
A member recently completed a swap of an M113 (2004 E500) and a ZF six speed manual gearbox.
You can most likely find an m113 for cheap as well as the tranny.

I"ll see about the transmission - I'll look into the ZF 6-speed one
And my car is a 2.3 - it's a European version I presume.

Too bad. You'll have a hard time selling the ML without it's AMG engine. I sure wouldn't buy any AMG without it's hand built engine. The ML will also be worth alot less without it's AMG engine. Not a smart or cost effective move IMHO.

Both cars were recently transported to my friend's shop where the heart transplant will take place.
Can't wait to rip the engines and transmissions out
After finally ordering the whole EVO II bodykit from Topbodykit.co.uk this Saturday, it was delivered to me on Tuesday at 23.55, because they had one set they just completed.
Impressive time of delivery from the UK to Poland, and the quality of the kit is really good. No damage, the packaging was excellent. Very even surfaces, quite flexible and all mounting points are molded into the parts.
I am very impressed with the quality, as well as the customer service - they replied to maaany of my emails.I am hoping the kit will fit as smoothly as this whole transaction went

Engine, transmission, driveshaft are out.
Recevied my new manual 6-speed SLK320 transmission today.
Hopefully it will all work out as planned
Still need to work out the what differential we should use for this project.

Being respectful of differing viewpoints is what the U.S. was founded on. It's apparent that there are a couple of people who choose to use bullying insults instead. How pathetic.
