Collecting a w201 with a tow truck

Hi folks,

Have done a bunch of googling and haven't found a good source on just putting one of these cars on a flatbed.

I see a detachable panel in the lower RHS of the bumper, is this where a Mercedes tow hook is screwed in for towing?

If nay, where should a tow truck hook be attached to pull the 190e without damaging suspension, etc.

I don't have a users manual or current access to the car as I'll be grabbing it in 2 weeks time.

If I connect to car battery to power the shifter will go into neutral easy enough?

Thanks,
Adam

Alternatively if someone could take a photo of the page(s) in the owners manual regarding having it towed?

You'll need to tow your vehicle with the rear off the ground since it's a rear wheel drive vehicle if you're not using a flatbed. You can go to www.haynes.com and order their repair manual for the 190 and have it before you pick up the car. That'll be a good source of info for you to have once you get the car anyway so you might as well go ahead and get it now. They're not that expensive, about $25.00.

Here you go. Like 190Efan mentioned I would never tow my car any significant distance using the hook for other than getting it out of a jam, like mud or snowbank.
Here is what the Manual shows

So I've had my cars towed a number of times over the years, usually by flatbed.
What I've found is that a lot of the AAA tow trucks don't have a small enough hook to fit the front towing eye.
For the few times my car wasn't running, the tow guy used nylon tow straps wrapped around both front lower control arms and pulled the car up. He said that's how they usually tow Porsches and Teslas (w/ aluminum frames)
Never pull the car by the LCAs w/ those metal hooks, they'll bend the LCAs.
A couple other times, I had it towed w/ a wheel lift truck. I have them lift the back and put the front on tow dolly's if we're going a longer distance.

Thanks all, here's hoping this guy has a small enough hook.

This car has sat a few years. Can anyone point me towards instructions on draining the petrol tank?

Also I have bought a used copy of 190e Haynes manual. Given current postal issues in Australia, lord knows when that will show up.

I have never had the pleasure of draining my tank as it has never sat for longer than a few weeks. Having replaced the accumulator with a known good used one just recently, if I ever had to I would just loosen the tank side of the accumulator to drain the tank. That is just a rubber hose. That is the easiest and safest connection and a low point. There may be other connections down there in the pluming as well but this is what I would do.

If you also want to drain the rest of the fuel you can also undo the other side of the accumulator which should drain the output of the fuel pump side.

I have one of those Haynes manuals, it is a good reference document for torque settings and electricals, etc but for repair steps onilne help like AutoDoc, pelican parts, etc seems to be more helpful.

Good luck with this

Thanks for that. Yeah I just want to try and keep as much old fuel away from that accumulator. Fortunately m539 restorations on youtube did a video on an old E21 he's fixing up and I believe it's the same fuel system:
