What's the level of difficulty swapping out an AC compressor on my 1992 2.3 8v? I don't have a lift. I searched around the web and could not find much information on doing the job.
Has anyone done the job or is it a job you need to take to a shop?
I do not have a 2.3 but it appear on a 2.6 you need access from the bottom to remove these 2 bottom bolts. There is also that return pipe bolted to the block that can only be reached from below. Not sure if the 2.3 also has that and if that needs to come out.
Hopefully you only need bottom access because the top is super crowded with PS pump, water pump etc.
Here is a view of the 2.6 AC with the bolts in the bottom. Oddly I have a 2.3 Haynes manual but it does not have much detail on removal of the compressor.
It would be best to take it to a hop due to needing to dispose of either freon or R134A. The typical DIYer doesn't have the equipment for it. BTW, freon is NLA..
