Re 80mm TB mod...
OK so got it in and all but there is this breather pipe on inlet side of TB mbe 5/8" long 1/2" diam ... the piece that is fitted to my 74mm body aint coming off and looks different too.
Is this little "breather" simply blocked off or ?

All parts fit on real well ... all Amg parts ... this inlet needs to be bunged up - Vic says its a PCV inlet point - so if you use the bottom for the PCV - you can close this one up. (BTW Vic your message box is full!).
1 step closer to completion.

On the S class that port feeds vacuum to the brake master cylinder. You can just use a heater hose plug with a clamp. It does looks nicer with the tap plug. The factory 55 inlet has a plastic plug instead.

Yes, I installed everything in the box - 80mm TB kit, belt wrap kit, and phenolics spacers. I didn't install the tensioner pulley stop yet because it wasn't necessary, and I didn't feel like upacking my die grinder. I'll install it later. Too bad I never did a stock dyno run, no big deal, I will dyno this setup and it will be my new baseline.
The wrap kit went on no problem and the belt lined up great. I've only driven around the neighborhood to make sure no CEL's or belt issues. I'll take the car out tomorrow for full testing on my 40 mile commute.

For all you guys doing the TB installs,be careful when handling the hoses on the y-pipes.They have a small piece of wire that is inside the hose recessed into the hose's inner side itself. This wire basically keeps the hose from collapsing inward due to the suction of the intake air passing through. The wire can easily be popped out of its recessed area when removing or replacing the y-pipe and its hoses, and you'll never see it from the outside.Only way to tell is if you squeeze the hoses and cant feel the wire anymore.
And yes,the wire can then be sucked through the TB and into the leading edge of the rotors on the SC.
The TB install is a mod that needs to be done with extreme care, not only because of the wire mentioned but also other things such as gasket sealing areas etc.

bah now I'll have nightmares of the tech just chucking out the stock TB and forgetting about this wire and gasket sealings
Non the less thanks for the heads up

2004 E55 AMG and 2003 C320 4Matic Miss my 993 Turbo above!!
Brian,
You are the man........Awesome pics of your hard work.......You can see how the belt covers a lot more of the SC snout in your picture.
Looks like you got a different belt than I did with my Wrap Kit. What was the make and model. My was not a green colored belt...
No big deal on the DYNO, I will be able to document the HP and TQ gains of the 80mm TB, Wrap Kit and Spacers........
Congrats.!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOw get out there and get your butt dyno done

Hey Steve!! How is the car? Looking forward to your feedback on the TB kit also.. Have fun!
Very nice install Brian!! Glad it all went in without any issues.
Let me know what you think once you've had a chance to drive the car a bit..

Here are some pics of the wire Im referring to.When removing or reinstalling the y-pipe and hose or hoses alone, some might tend to bend the hoses to get them over the lip of the ends. Some might take the entire assembly off in 1 piece to avoid taking the band clamps off the hoses, they are a pain to deal with if you do not have the proper tool for the clamp.
One car that I did the TB install on had the wire popped out and it was resting nicely up against the leading edge of the SC rotor.Somewhere down the line, either during assembly at AMG or work being done at the dealership this wire got popped out and its a good thing I found it.Its very easy to tell if the wire is in place or not, towards the middle of the hoses, there is one rib that will be stiff compared to the others.Just squeeze the hose and see if you can feel the wire or not.If the hose is soft from end to end, then the wire has popped out.Hopefully it didnt make it past the Throttle plate like this one did.

It was directed at anyone doing the 80mm upgrade. I was wondering if they all have these same modifications or what not. I was also wondering if one works better (easier install, etc) than another. i know that in the end the performance is there.

All the 80mm TBs are basically the same, except Kleemann's.The install is alot of work, and takes some time,as it should. The entire SC assembly has to come off and then that assembly has to be taken apart to a certain point.
