*** VRP Stage 2 Heads Buildup ***
One of the members here decided to do a Stage 2 heads buildup on his E55.. I will leave his name out of it for now and leave it up to him to identify himself...
The Stage 2 heads involves a valve job and porting work. In addition we will add a set of our titanium retainers and our custom cams.. We both decided to leave the stock valvetrain alone for now as I didnt have a set of the Ferrea larger valves in stock and it would take approx 4weeks to receive them.
He shipped up his heads next day air and I received them today.. I dropped them off at the machine shop and they will begin the process tomorrow morning..
I will take progress shots along the way so you can see exactly what is involved in this project.. It takes approx 1 work week to complete the heads so by next Monday they will be packed and on their way back to the owner.
Total downtime will be 2 weeks by the time his tech reassembles everything on his side.
To start things off, here are the shots of the stock heads as they came out of his car...

Evil Laugh "Whoo whoo whoo ahhh ahhh ahhhhhhhh"
It is I!!!
Thanks again Victor!!! Been getting my nerve up for heads for over a year now. Last guy I called (before I knew you were doing heads) told me, "Well dayum son, we ain't never done um before, but we'll take a hellofa whack at um. Send um on over!!!" Just what you wanna here as AMG heads run 3500 PER HEAD+ to replace.
So glad my babies are in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing.

Damn Jim, your ***** have to be the size of King Kong's.
Please have Vic take as many pictures as possible. Also, when you get things back, I'd love to see and read about all the details as you put her back together.
Good luck!!

There is a pretty good chance that boost could be reduced with the porting job. What we are hoping is that at minimum, boost would be reduced but power would remain the same (due to more efficient flow) allowing me to add even more boost with another mod.
We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Keep your fingers crossed.

You got any pics of your heads Jerry. Was curious to see what they did to them. Couldn't find the post the guys were talking about on them.
Thanks man.

Do a search for PTE's port job, increased flow with very little change in port volume/dimensions.

I know a few guys have had their heads ported so far. Wish someone would come forward and give up some info. Not sure why the silence, but to each his own.
I at least will post dyno results good, bad or same.

Didnt have a chance to run by today to visit so I had the shop take some "before" pics...
They sent me 3 shots via email so I'll post them in case anyone hasn't seen what a stock combustion chamber and exhaust port looks like...
Not sure how many miles are on Jim's car, but this is what they look like when you take them apart..
Please excuse the image quality..

Rflow, yup, doing VRP cams as well.
So would you guys say that is normal looking for a 34K, regular serviced, only running 91 (highest octane up this high) car.
Sure looks like a lot of carbon to me but never really looked at heads like this. Sometimes I think it's the "high altitude curse". Car is tuned for much lower altitudes and I bet has been running rich for some time now at 4300ft.
Really cool to see them as they move along.
Thanks again V!!!!

I don't even have an E55 yet but just being on the board and seeing all the things that you guys are doing is making me want one more and more each day.

SLR's were great and I really like them, but the VRP's offer a touch more performance. I was sold when I heard "lumpy idle". I may just leave mine lumpy without adjusting idle....I friggin love that!!! If she stalls on me though, gotta bump it up a touch like V and Rflow said.
Gonna be selling the SLR's which are still in perfect shape for a pretty good price very soon. For the price I am selling them for, it would be crazy not to jump on them for the power increase. More soon on those.

As long as you can increase boost, I don't see anything wrong with porting your heads.
I'm running a larger pulley now (same boost as before), and cams. At that time (August), I was down 20whp on a dynapak. However, my baseline run was in January, and there was about a 55 degree difference in temps. As of last month, I pulled a 337whp and 348wtrq, which is -10whp / +5wtrq difference over my comparison run in January.
After reviewing the data and my recent track runs, I can reiterate what I've said before. My car is faster, even though it's making less power.
The car makes peak torque much sooner and holds it longer.
The car is begging for more boost and I'm waiting on my pulley supplier to come through with a 190mm that should provide even better results.
