Need a little dyno help from the AMG psychos

It seems that you guys do the most dyno pulls so I thought I'd ask here. I'm going to dyno my E500 (don't laugh) next week and I've never done it before. Putting the car in dyno mode is simple enough but seeing how this car is N/A with the 7sp tranny, what gear should we do the pull in? Any other tips I should know?

My car has an Evotech (EuroElites) ECU tune, OEM AMG exhaust and I'm having the the resonator deleted with straight pipes. With all of drama going on about EuroElites, I wanna find out what, if any, gains I got from them. I'm doing a pre and post resonator delete dyno to see if there are any gains to be had there as well.

Anyway, try not to tease too much since it's only an E500 and any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Do your dyno pull in whichever transmission gear gives you a 1:1 ratio. Check the owner's manual for the gear ratio data for the transmission.

You're not going to see any difference in a pre/post resonator dyno pull. Removing the resonator makes your exhaust louder and more prone to resonance. Your best bet would have been taking a dyno before the Evotech remap and one after the remap.

Correct. It should be 5th, as sixth and seventh are overdrive gears in all versions of the 7G as far as I know. The only thing to really be worried about with your ECU tuning is A/F ratio which should be a part of the dyno. You will not see any repeatable increase from the resonator delete (not on a 55K anyway), I did it to cure a resonant "droning" at 72 mph in my car. The small increase in exhaust noise was welcome everywhere else. If you did not do a pre-mod dyno of the ECU tuning, you will not be able to really tell if their tuning did anything, but if the dyno plot or A/F looks bad, my guess is that you lost power regardless of what they claim or the butt dyno has told you. Being NA, you're much less likely to suffer damage (catastrophic or long term) from their tune, but even if all is well, don't expect much from a ECU tune on a NA 5.0.

I'm not expecting much gain, but the butt dyno tells me it feels a little bit perkier after the ECU tune. Adam claimed 20hp/20tq at the wheels. As long as I see anything above the stock 302 crank HP, I'll be happy. I guess the shop will do the corrected numbers? What's the expected drivetrain loss, 18%? Too bad I didn't get the dyno before the tune.

The resonator is for audible enhancement only. But thought I might gain a few ponies. Guess not.

Make sure you have a fan blowing on the front so the air is flowing mimick(moving air)

Make sure its cooled down a little from the drive

Make sure you can hold the gear you are going to dyno in.

I used 4th

ask if you can run the car through the gears and hit your limiter, thats neat.

get the a/f ratio's and yes a tune on a NA motor is difficult to squeeze out hp and tq, if you get 20/20 I will be amazed

Since you did not do a pre-mod dyno, you will not be able to claim any gain whatsoever, and neither will Adam. I would be surprised to see 20 HP out of a NA 5.0. That would equate to nearly a 10% RWHP gain from only an ECU tune. I seriously doubt that.

302 - 18% = 247.64
add 20 RWHP = 267.64 or 8% increase in RWHP. Hopefully it does that or more. It sucks to put time, money, and effort into a car and have things not turn out the way you want. Ask me about the HPS Gen II on my W210 E55. Good luck man.

Stock 500s do 245-255 RWHP. The biggest gain you can hope for will be from 55 Kompressor air boxes, 10-12RWHP. Exhaust is good, there is no power there. Underdrive pullies will give you 7-10 RWHP in first three gears. A custom tune can squeek out another 5-10 RWHP. Next step will be forced induction.

I am looking into making Power Packages for 430s and 500s in the near future.

This I believe. I also believe Vadim can give pre and post dyno's to back up these numbers.
