Check you belt!
For those of you approaching the 60-70K range in miles and think you need a new S/C bearing, Check you belt!! Mine was getting cracked and I knew I needed to replace it soon, but after a while, I started hearing a ticking noise, coming from a bearing from the supercharger pulley. Even the dealer said it was the clutch that needed to be replaced (really just the bearing). Other mechanics also said the same thing. It started getting louder. I went to change the belt the other day, and to my surprise the belt had two half inch chunks missing from the belt across all the ribs. After installing the belt, the noise was gone! I figured the lack of belt going across the pulley had been making the noise. The biggest bonus was the POWER INCREASE!! Holy Cow, it felt more powerful than when I first got it! I guess all that slipping of the old belt really changed after the new one went on. Just an FYI for those of you approaching the 60-70K on the original belt.

Autohauz was about $60 for the Continental belt. I tried to stop by and pick one up, but they wouldn't sell me one. They said they were shipping only. Shipping is free for standard ground, but I needed one like yesterday. I stopped by the dealer and picked up one for $71 and it was a Mercedes~Gates belt.

i'm not sure about the gator belts.
with the E55's the gator slip more frequently..
I now have the Gates continous grooves on my car.. and the power delivery is back to smooth power and not as many jerks.
Also bought my Gates belt at Kragen for $40. The belt is alot shorter than the C32 belt.
Brandon: Will you recommend the Gator belt with your clutch pulley?

Gates is the largest manufacturer of automotive Belts and Hoses in the US. They've been around forever and make a quality product. They produce several different grades of belts/hoses, as do the other manufacturers.
The Goodyear Gatorback belt is also a good quality belt and often used on supercharged applications. I was surprised to hear someone say it slipped on the E55.
I would stand by either of these brands, as well as Dayco, assuming you purchase the high-end version of each brand. Just stay away from the generic/house brands that save a few bucks but are less quality.

e55 sc belt specs?
Topgun32, do you know the specs/part number for the e55 sc belt? I totaled my C55 on March 12th, and bought an 03 E55 on March 17th. I would like to replace my sc belt it seems to jerk a little at slow speeds.

it was a Dayco belt with the gator style grooves...
maybe that was my problem.
I never did try the Good year Gatorback belt and I cant comment on its grip.

I bought the Gates belt, but there is also a HD version of the belt.
Not sure the difference, but I will try to get the HD version on my next belt change, around 6 months from now.
For the E55 the belt change is like 30 seconds...
For the C32 it takes a few minutes.

Brandon- this is for the C32? My car is at 60k so I might go ahead and change too. That pulley is NICE. I finally opened it the other day and the difference shocked me.

To answer Tectite's question - you have a picture of your belt's wrap in your owner's manual. Loosen the automatic belt tensioner pulley, which will give you the slack you'll need. IIRC, you'll also need to unscrew the guide pulley near the S/C pulley, so you can thread the belt through. Otherwise, just line everything up properly, retighten, and you're good to go.
