11/08 Nav DVD Release - Worthwhile?

Our nav DVD is now 4 years old.

Has anyone purchased the current DVD (Navteq U0028-0070-809)?

Was the upgrade worth the $200 price tag? What new info/features should I expect?

Thanks.

No new "features" on the NAV map disc... just more up to date road info. (New streets, revised off ramps, new interstates.) BTW this "new" info is about a year older than the release date of the DVD. Its not gonna impress you unless you live in an area with a lot of new road construction.

I "upgraded," and it seems to be about the same as the disc that came with the car. Although it does now show some roads in the "burbs" it didn't.

I bought a 2009 E350 last month, but the Nav system doesn't show some freeway segments, such as parts of I210 in Southern California, that have been opened more than a year. How do I determine the date of the database in my navigation system? How do I determine if there is an update available? I'm wondering if the database is already stale...

As per pre-delivery inspection (PDI) it is a MBUSA requirement that new vehicles deliver with current navigation database. Latest version released NOV08 same month as delivery therefore you are entitled to a no cost update if not current.

Dealer should have given you the navigation database DVD currently installed. Load this into the head unit and it should show both installed version and DVD version. If you do not have the DVD then only the dealer can check or if one purchases a new DVD installed version and new DVD version shows.

+1

I have a 2006 disc up for grabs as well, I just bought the latest disc (so its really a 2008 not a 2009?) at the dealership parts department for $180 plus tax (with MBCA discount). Its in line with what ebay vendors are asking.

My new MBCA membership is paying off already

Actually, I'm already enjoying improved POI listings, the 2006 disc didn't list some of my familiar restaurants.

And I think the 11/08 disc has brought about increased detailing in the maps (building outlines).

I think its worth the money.
