It is indeed helpful info. You may actually have it towards the end of your owners manual, just before Appendix A. I saw it in my '07 owners manual and it was quite helpful when doing my service A last weekend.

I sort of wonder if this brochure is meant to be a suppliment for the older model year manuals, because that pdf looks exactly like what I saw.

I haven't downloaded the file so maybe it's in there, but the oil amounts listed are for V6 engines. The M271 takes 5.8 quarts. Just wanted to post that in case, it's a pain to overfill.

Question Power Steering Fluid Low

The power steering in my 2001 C320 is low so I went to the stealership to get some fluid. Yesterday they came back with what looked like a tin pentosin can and he rang it up at $31. I told him I would wait (the C320 is my 2nd car so rarely driven). I went back today to get it after doing some research online and then today I received a plastic quart container that looked nothing like the pentosin can and it was only $14.

The container says Power Steering Oil and is part number Q 1 46 0001 which is the part number given in the recommended fluid brochure that comes with the owners manual.

Is this the right stuff? I'm a little concerned as the MB parts people didn't seem too bright and didn't seem to want to do any extra research to make sure this was the right stuff.

Help!

nice reminder and eye opener as to how easy servicing your own car can be, most if not all can be done yourself!

Thanks!

Be carefull because I read different benzes use different PS fluids.

What color is it?

Does it look like this?

If it's red then they gave you the wrong one. Older models use ATF (usually pre 1990) so make sure it's not red.

I have heard of people using Q 1 46 0001 as well. But make sure what they gave you is correct.

I'm gonna do some research find out. I'll keep you updated. I too need to get power steering fluid. I bought it from the dealer and misplaced it (somewhere in my garage)

By the way great place to buy filters. I know some people were having trouble finding fleece filters.

The people who were selling that Hydraulic oil say its for Power steering But I don't believe that crap (don't trust it). Ebay

Anyway here are some pics

Seems the Q1460001 is the power steering oil. It seems it is the right one.

By the way you love the prices right???? I love how the Dealership sets their own insane prices. Eighter way Return it you will get a better deal buying it online.

Thanks for the quick replies. I haven't opened the container yet as I wanted to do some research before I opened it. It doesn't look like the container pictured above but looks more like an oil container. It is plastic and looks exactly like it could be on the shelf with Mobile One OW-40.

I'll keep the receipt, put it in my car and hope for the best. If it goes south I'll jump all over the dealership.

I'll try to remember to take a pic of the container when I go to top off the reservoir. Thanks again!

For better prices than the dealer you can also try getmercedesparts.com

Some of their stuff is 40% off dealer prices. You can also try contacting them for the right product.

Good Luck

Here is a pic of the bottle. As you can see it has part # Q 1 46 0001 on it which per the fluids book is correct. My only hesitation is the multiple bottles the parts person at the dealership brought out before coming back with this one.

That seems like to be it. I'm guessing the first time the parts guy brought the fluid it might have been something different Or it might have been an older bottle?

Maybe just to be 100% sure you can call the dealer and veryify the part number. If they ask you which one you got don't give them the right one instead give them Q 1 32 0001 to be sure if they correct you

Good Luck

P.S. Since the first one was more expensive they might have gaven you the Q 1 32 0001. Even on the parts website it is more expensive than the Q 1 46 0001 .

this post/thread is awesome i agree... regarding fluids etc i always use OEM just b/c i KNOW it's design for our W203.... and it gives me a piece of mind

things like pads i don't use OEM just b/c the damn oem just makes too much dust... unless its BETTER i won't use anything aftermarket but that is just my opinion... my car is due for plugs soon again, tranny, and brake fluid change!

Admittedly, I skimmed the thread, but I think you're wrong about the PS fluid, Karo.

The Pentosin CHF 11S (The blue metal bottle AKA hydraulic fluid) is the proper power steering fluid for the W203.

I assume the other part number in the plastic MB branded bottle is either rebottled Pentosin fluid, or it's not meant for the W203.

EDIT: Was your later post there to correct the earlier one? Sorry I just realized...

Yup. It't the Pentosin CHF 11S blut metal bottle.

You can get it online if you search Pentosin CHF 11S. Getmercedesparts.com has it way cheaper but with shipping it comes out to the same. I bought extra filter and 2 bottles to make up for the shipping.
