Quaife LSD who sells it?

I am trying to find a Quaife LSD for the SL600 before I chip it. Can anyone please tell me the part number and ratio? I believe it has the same tranny as the SL55 and SL65? I'm having trouble finding it in Canada. I can buy it or have my shop buy it direct and then do the install. All I need is a link where to buy it. The shop has the Kleeman LSD but it sounds like the consensus here is to go with the quaife. Opinions and info appreciated.

dont forget to compare it to the wavetrac torque biasing limited slip differential made by autotech

well according to that site, the wavetrac is 400 cheaper and does a better job, anyone use one of these things and have an opinion on their gains

2008 SL 63 AMG R230
interim report:
the new Quaife unit with updated internal lubrication system works like a charm. Significantly improved handling of the car as the ESP was previously intervening a lot of circumstances despite those 285 tires.
Now both tires just GO: no tail wraggling, no ESP flashing lights, no fuel temp cut off, and i guess therefore more constant torque to the tires and easier control. The Quaife unit do not require " locking mechanics " so didnt feel any kick but smooth transitions even with very agressive throttle in angled steering.
Very glad to have pull the trigger and tks again to Kevin Bird at UK help to research with Quaife engineering and got the latest updated unit.

On the sl install, were any special tools needed and how long did the install take? I was also going to ask how the wavetrac behaves, is there a big clunk when it engages? I want good power delivery but I don't want to bust a drive shaft or half shaft

not sure with the rest of the R230, but SL 63 still have a large rear tire well blocking the rear differential case to be slide out.

So the SL 63 install took 8 hrs and no need for special tools ( pls refer to above pictures for some hints )

exhaust mufflers off,
cross pipes / resonator off,
one side of subframe off,
drive shaft off, then
both half shafts,
open differential,
disassemble ring gears and
replace with Quaife unit ( no shimming required );
reverse above processes,
plus four wheels alignment,
inspections,
parking lot max right / left slow drive to ensure lubrication,
check noise, road tests, done.

Again believe the Quaife unit do not require " locking mechanics " so didnt feel any kick but smooth transitions even with very agressive throttle in angled steering.

If you are looking for the best diff centre consideration should be given to the OS Giken. It is a multi plate type with quiet smooth operation and 100% lockup.
The only down side is the price which is from memory $3000,00.

RE: Quaife

I recently upgraded my 600 to current SL63 19 wheels with new PS2's. The new tires are a big improvement, but I am still more traction challenged than I would like.

So, ordered up a Quaife from James@ACG. Having my indie install it next week. Thanks James for a most easy transaction.

Will update after it's in and driving a few miles.

Quaife Installed

Got my 600 back from my indie shop Friday, with Quaife installed. Did not get to drive the car much until today, rain, rain through yesterday, but went out for a while today. HUGE improvement. I havn't done WOT from a dig yet, will get 100 miles on the new bearings etc. first, but the car now tracks perfectly straight from a dig or a roll, rear torque steer is gone, as is the side/side wobble under WOT in 2nd, and she just feels more stable all the time.

Doing WOT, or close to it, from say 35 or 40 roll in D would result in big time traction control intervention at any temp under 45 degrees F, not today, the car just plants itself and GOES.

Pretty sure I'll be able to go WOT in 1st now, which was not the case before. Will update again after some more seat time.

It is not a simple job, here is what I am told was done:

exhaust off, one piece unit on SL600
drive shaft off,
both half shafts off,
Remove front diff support, unbolt rear of diff from subframe
remove diff from car
open differential,
disassemble ring gears and
replace with Quaife unit (no shims were needed);
reverse above processes,
road test, check noise.

My shop was able to do the job without need for alignment, it was perfect before and is exactly the same now.

Summation: if you have a tuned V12, DO IT, it is worth every penny. I'll going to do one for my E63 too.

RE: Costs for Quaife Install

He said the job took 10 hours. I do their floorplan so we scratch each others back, not sure what he will charge me, but 8 - 10 hours should be about what a commercial shop would charge.

My Quaife came with new MB bearings, seals, sealant, and lube, so it was just labor and shop supplies.

Drove the car again this morning, 38 degrees outside, traction was awesome.
