how to downgrade
Hi everyone!
I decided to do everything to get the system downgraded and whola!! got the ECE system back!
Under 5+3+7 I changed the model to w211ECE and keyboard to w211ece. What changed is the Radio - got RDS now and after I push SAT button, I have VIDEO - see pictures.
Under the SERV - there is a different menu than in US version. Here you can see on the last picture -I have some kind of internet access - whatever it is I don't know how it works and how to turn it on.
Going back to VIDEO - after I put a CD/DVD to the single slot - I get two signs - DVD video and compact disc digital audio - 1st pic I believe - but the system don't see the disc!!!!
I can eject and put it back but it looks like it doesnt recognize that the CD is inside. Do you guys know what I can do to get it work?

Yes you would need an older firmware to downgrade. But since your COMAND is a US COMAND and not a ECE COMAND your hardware doesn't have the Omega DVD playback processor chip on the board. Worthless to downgrade and hoping you can watch DVDs.

Thanks MackHack, is there a way to verify the dvd unit? can I see the dvd unit spec in the Eng mode? Should it say "Omega" there?
I'm just making sure that the previous owner didn't just upgrade the firmware and made the ECE option disappear. thanks again!

Here are the steps I found to make my build date 4/04 Command 50 Head Unit (HU)
Display the AMG Logo upon Start Up
Turn Car ON
Press Audio
Choose Radio
Press MAP
Press 5 and immediately 3 and 7-
You Press them All almost simultaneously but the 5 a hair quicker
HOLD Until the MENU Displays
Then Choose "AMG" w211 US
Click -Back
Shut off the car
Get out
Arm the car (lock)
go inside relax for 5 min don't watch the clock you be patient and breathe
Come back after 5!! not 4 or 3 but Yes FIVE WHOLE minutes and it'll work.
Patience is the key here.. the 3,5,7 is the easy part
btw - this only changes the display - if you want the HU to play MP3's and DVD AUDIO
You'll need to burn some software and its just as easy as this.
PLEASE NOTE - DVD (AUDIO) NO MOVIES
If anyone has figured out how to play movies please PM and ill paypal you. Its confirmed that
my HU plays DVDS but I will note that upon inserting an Audio DVD or DVD Movie the display
reads Compact Disc CD an older nostalgic looking Logo. I read a few places in order for movies
to be played it should say DVD. I do have NAV and Im also not sure if thats where you play the DVD.
So I tried by playing a regular movie DVD in my NAV and nothing. YET (optimistic)
Anyhow any info would be fantastic -

I was playing in the EM with flash update and it worked, I put my original disc with 15/03 software and it did downgrade. As for the DVD movies, I do have US version and DVD in the head unit. I was able to watch movies but then upgraded to 46/06 and couldn't change to ECE, only US where instead VIDEO we have SAT...then I did downgrade (described above) and got 15/03 - all EURO settings, but lost the single cd - it spins the cd but doesn't read... and from that time I am unable to find the solution to get this single cd working...

I want to thank menzer for the attachments. It did work out for me 
i have a W211 2004 E270 CDI with original comand 15/04 that i acceded to Eng mode and hidden menus easily before i (dumbly) upgraded to 30/06 from HERE . I have read many threads world wide saying that downgrade would brick the comand or couldn't be possible to do at all. WRONG!!!! This thread was the last one i read and i just needed the 15/04 to try the damn downgrade (thanks menzer again). I DID the downgrade and every thing went smoothly till the end, one try only and VOILÁ i have Eng mode and hidden menus back again; no more video image stop when car in movement 
; still can play mp3 from up and cdc cases; dvd case "eats" every dvd i stuck in 
no region code ****. hope this can help whoever needs. So: DOWNGRADE CAN BE DONE!

It's not wrong, you were just lucky. I replaced a bunch of boards from COMANDs that did get bricked because the firmware downgrade process didn't go through. And we all know there is nothing you can do but putting in the CD, the rest is in god's hand so to speak. I still do not recommend to downgrade COMAND firmware. Not to forget, you get all software bugs back from 15/04 and lose ETA display capability, mp3 (ID3 tag support).
About the bugs, i don't really care about them. Music is to listen and ETA is dispensable

Maybe i'm just lucky. I agree. But as far as i concern the recording process of the CD it's also important. Everybody knows that a bad recording can damage any update process. So, i recorded the firmware into a CD-R 700MB 52x MULTI SPEED from mitsai at 10x speed with Nero Burning ROM 12 trial version in a laptop PC.
About the bugs, i don't really care about them. Music is to listen and ETA is dispensable
